Older versions of the Tivoli Storage Manager server might have a problem whichprevents restoring the root directory <strong>and</strong> the CIFS share definition. If this problemoccurs, it can be circumvented by using by one of the following methods:1. Use the DISABLENQR testflag to restore the root directory as follows:dsmc res \\NetAppFiler\CifsShareName\ -test=disablenqr-dirsonly2. Use the comm<strong>and</strong> line client -pick option with a restore comm<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> selectthe root directory:dsmc res \\NetAppFiler\CifsShareName\ -dirsonly -pickRelated tasks“Net Appliance CIFS share definition backups” on page 152||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||Restoring data from a VMware backupThere are several options for restoring files to a VMware guest. The method thatyou use depends on the version of Tivoli Storage Manager client software you areusing to run the restore <strong>and</strong> the way the VMware files were backed up.File-level restoreA file level restore is useful for restoring an individual file that might havebeen lost or damaged. Use this option when it is not practical to restore anentire VMware image. As best practice, do not restore entire VMwareguests if you used file level-backups because the restore comm<strong>and</strong> doesnot recreate the Windows system states.You can only use the file-level restore option if you have setup a file-levelbackup of the VMware guests. This restore method does not work if youhave configured full backups of the VMware guests. The files are backedup like there was a Tivoli Storage Manager client installed on eachVMware guest.You can restore a VMware file that has been backed up using the followingmethods:vRestore the files to the proxy backup server that acts as a proxy of theVMware guest. Use this method if you have not installed a TivoliStorage Manager client on the VMware guest you are restoring the filesto.v Restore the files from a Tivoli Storage Manager client that was installedon the VMware guest.Full VMware backupA full VMware backup is used to restore an entire VMware guest. For thismethod, the VMware guest is replaced with the restored image or a newVMware guest is created with that restored image. The full VMwarerestore is useful because you are restoring all of the VMware files <strong>and</strong> theWindows system states.You can restore a Full VMware backup using the following methods:vvIf the VMware client is using Tivoli Storage Manager versions earlierthan 6.2.2, you must restore the full VMware backup using VMwareConsolidated Backup.If the VMware client is using Tivoli Storage Manager version 6.2.2 orhigher, you must restore the full VMware backup using the vStorageAPI.190 IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Windows Backup-Archive Clients: <strong>Installation</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>User's</strong> <strong>Guide</strong>
