Configure your storage environment so that the proxy server can access thestorage volumes that are in your ESX server farm.b. If you are using network attached storage (NAS) or direct-attach storage,ensure that the backup proxy server is accessing the volumes with anetwork-based transport.c. Optional: If you will be running a direct SAN backup, zone the SAN <strong>and</strong>configure the disk subsystem host mappings so that all VMware ESXservers <strong>and</strong> the backup proxy access the same disk volumes.2. Configure the backup proxy server using the following steps:a. If you are configuring the backup proxy server to directly access the storagevolumes, turn off Automatic drive letter assignment. If it is not turned off,the backup proxy server might corrupt the Raw Data Mapping (RDM) ofthe virtual disks <strong>and</strong> the backup will fail. Run diskpart.exe <strong>and</strong> enter thefollowing comm<strong>and</strong>s:diskpartautomount disableautomount scrubexitb. Install the Tivoli Storage Manager client on the backup proxy server. At thecustom setup page of the installation wizard, select VMware Backup Tools.Important: If you are moving the backup data using a LAN-free backup,the SAN must have separate connections for tape <strong>and</strong> disk.3. Modify the Tivoli Storage Manager using the following steps:a. Access the administrative comm<strong>and</strong> line of Tivoli Storage Manager client.b. From the Tivoli Storage Manager client of the proxy server, enter thefollowing comm<strong>and</strong> to register the node:register node my_server_name my_passwordWhere my_server_name is the full computer name of the proxy server <strong>and</strong>my_password is the password to access it.Tip: You can get the server full computer name by right-clicking on MyComputer. Click the Computer Name tab <strong>and</strong> look at the name listed nextto Full computer name.c. From the Tivoli Storage Manager client of the proxy server, enter thefollowing comm<strong>and</strong> to register the node:register node my_guest_name my_passwordwhere my_guest_name is the full name of the VMware guest that you arebacking up.d. Repeat step 3c for each VMware guest that you are backing up.e. Grant proxy access for each of the VMware guests by entering the followingcomm<strong>and</strong>:grant proxynode agent=my_server_name target=my_guest_nameWhen the comm<strong>and</strong> completes, the following message is returned:Chapter 4.
