Delete Backup“Filelist” on page 379The delete backup comm<strong>and</strong> deletes backup files from Tivoli Storage Managerserver storage. Your administrator must give you authority to delete backup files.You can delete your backed up files from the Tivoli Storage Manager client nodeworkstation if the function is enabled on the definition of the Tivoli StorageManager node. When you do this, the Tivoli Storage Manager server takes all ofthe backed up files that meet the 'filespec' <strong>and</strong> 'deltype' specified <strong>and</strong> deactivatethem. The server also assigns a deactivation date of 'infinite-minus' so that the filesare no longer available for restore <strong>and</strong> are purged, immediately on the subsequentrun of file expiration. The file is not physically removed until the expirationprocess runs.Important: After you delete backup files, you cannot restore them. Verify that thebackup files are no longer needed before you delete them. Tivoli Storage Managerprompts whether you want to continue with the delete. If you specify yes, thespecified backup files are immediately deleted <strong>and</strong> removed from Tivoli StorageManager server storage.Supported ClientsThis comm<strong>and</strong> is valid for all clients.Syntax►►Delete BAckupoptionsfilespec{ filespacename } filespec►►objtype=FILEobjtype=IMAGEdeltype=ACTIVEdeltype=INACTIVEALL►◄ParametersfilespecSpecifies the path <strong>and</strong> file name that you want to delete from storage. Usewildcard characters to specify a group of files or all files in a directory.Separate file specifications with a space. You can also use the filelist option toprocess a list of files.
