If the label of the d: drive does not match a file space name on the server, TivoliStorage Manager cannot locate your files using the current d: drive label. However, Tivoli Storage Manager can locate your files if you use the file spacename based on the original drive label. A mismatch between a label and a filespace name might occur if you label your drives again, or if you access TivoliStorage Manager from a different workstation than the one from which you backedup the files. If you have not relabeled the drive, and you are at the sameworkstation where the file was backed up, then you can use the drive letter as ashorthand version of the file space name (drive label).Fixed drivesTivoli Storage Manager can back up your fixed drives even if they do not have alabel, including drive aliases created with the DOS subst command. This applies toboth the drive alias and the underlying physical drive, because the alias name andthe physical drive label are the same.NTFS file spacesWhen you back up files on New Technology File System (NTFS) partitions, TivoliStorage Manager also backs up file security information and file descriptors. The following file descriptors are backed up:v Owner security information (SID)v Primary group SIDv Discretionary access-control listv System access-control listYou must specify an NTF file-space name that is mixed or lowercase, and enclosedin quotation marks and braces. For example, {"NTFSDrive"}. Single quotationmarks or double quotation marks are valid in loop mode. For example:{"NTFSDrive"} and {’NTFSDrive’} are both valid. In batch mode, only singlequotation marks are valid. The single quotation mark requirement is a restrictionof the operating system.Universal Naming Convention namesA Universal Naming Convention (UNC) name is a network resource name for ashare point on a workstation. The resource name includes the workstation name assigned to the workstation anda name you assign to a drive or directory so that it can be shared. The name youassign is also called a share point name.Examples: UNC names in domain listsThis topic shows some examples of using UNC names to specify a domain list. You must specify the following information:v A drive letter for removable mediav Drive letters or UNC name for local fixed drivesv Drive letters or UNC names for remote mapped drivesv UNC names for remote unmapped drivesExample 1: To specify drive a: containing removable media, enterdomain a: \\local\c$Chapter 4.
