You cannot use this procedure to restore files thatwere part of a full backup. To restore a full VM backup, see “Restoring full VMbackups for VMware Consolidated Backup” on page 192 or “Restoring full VMbackups” on page 193v If you are restoring a file from the off-host backup server onto the VMwareguest, the off-host backup server must be configured as a proxy. See “Preparingthe environment for VMware backup processing” on page 144 for moreinformation.Important: Restoring a file-level backup to a VMware guest uses the samecomm<strong>and</strong> syntax that you use to restore a file to a Tivoli Storage Manager client.Do not use the restore VM comm<strong>and</strong> for this scenario because it is specific tofull-VM restores.1. From the off-host backup server, query the Tivoli Storage Manager server foravailable backups by entering the following comm<strong>and</strong>:dsmc q MyFilePathwhere MyFilePath is the location of the backups.2. Restore the full VMware backup that was listed in step 1 by entering one of thefollowing comm<strong>and</strong>s:v If you are restoring a file on a Tivoli Storage Manager client that is installedon a VMware guest, enter the following comm<strong>and</strong>:dsmc restore myFileNamevIf you are restoring a file from the off-host backup server onto the VMwareguest, enter the following comm<strong>and</strong>:dsmc restore myFileName fileLocation -asnode=myVMNameSee the following parameters for the values that are specific to yourenvironment:myFileNameSpecifies the path <strong>and</strong> file name in storage that you want to restore. Usewildcard characters to specify a group of files or all the files in a directory.fileLocationSpecifies the path <strong>and</strong> file name where the file is stored on the off-hostbackup server.myVMNameSpecifies the name of the VMware guest that you are restoring the file to.Chapter 5.
