Create a group for each VMware ESX server.b. Create a Tivoli Storage Manager node name for each group.c. Create a client options file for each group.d. Create a scheduler service for each group.6. Define a file-level backup of each of the VMware guests.7. Optional: Exclude files that you do not want backed up from file-level backupusing the following steps:Important: If you are running file-level backups from the VMware guests, their exclude list must match the exclude list on the proxy backup server.a. From the virtual machine, open the Tivoli Storage Manager client dsm.optfile.b. Add exclude statements for the directories and files that you are notbacking up, using the following command:exclude "\\*\X$\Directory\File"where X is the drive letter, Directory is the directory name, and File is thefile name. For more information about excluding files using the dsm.optfile, see http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tsminfo/v6r2 .8. Schedule the file-level backups to run six days per week. The full backup runson the seventh day.9. Optional: Specify compression and deduplication to reduce the backup size ofthe VMware backups using the following steps:a. From the VMware guests, open the Tivoli Storage Manager client dsm.optfile.b. Enable compression for each group on the proxy server by adding thefollowing option to the group's dsm.opt file: compression yes.Tip: You can only use the compression option with the VSTORE full vmbackup if the backup is being saved to a storage pool that has beenenabled for deduplication. See “Determine compression and encryptionprocessing” on page 75 and “Compression, encryption, and adaptivesubfile backup processing” on page 400 for more information.c.
