With client scheduling, you can perform the following tasks:v Display information about available schedules.v Display information about work that the schedule has completed.v Modify scheduling options in the client options file (dsm.opt).The Tivoli Storage Manager Client Acceptor service (CAD) can manage thescheduler. In this case, the CAD serves as an external timer for the scheduler. When the scheduler is started, it queries the server for the next scheduled event. The event is either run immediately or the scheduler exits. The CAD restarts thescheduler when it is time to run the scheduled event. This reduces the number ofbackground processes on your workstation and resolves memory retentionproblems that can occur when running the scheduler service without CADmanagement. You cannot use the dsmcad for scheduling when you set the sessioninitiationoption to serveronly.Use the managedservices option in your client options file (dsm.opt) to specifywhether the CAD manages the scheduler.Important: If you run the client scheduler on the command line, the schedulerdoes not run as a background service.Perform the following steps to configure the CAD to manage the client scheduler:1. Select Utilities → Setup Wizard → Help me configure the TSM ClientScheduler from the Tivoli Storage Manager main window. The TSM SchedulerWizard window appears.2. Select the Install a new or additional scheduler task and press the Nextbutton. The TSM Scheduler name and location window displays3. Specify the name of the Scheduler. Select the Local Machine and Use theClient Acceptor daemon (CAD) to manage the schedule options. Click theNext button. The Select the names of the Web services window displays.4. Specify the name of the client acceptor service that you want to manage thescheduler. If the CAD is already installed for use by the Web client, select thatCAD from the drop down list. Otherwise, type the name you want to give theCAD, for example, TSM Client Acceptor. Click the Next button.5. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the configuration of theoptions file name, the HTTP port the CAD uses, authentication information, service login options, log file names, and immediate start option.Note:v If the sessioninitiation option is set to serveronly in your client options file(dsm.opt), the client setup wizard and scheduler service might be unable toinitiate authentication with the Tivoli Storage Manager server. To avoid thisproblem, ensure that the Contact the TSM Server to validate passwordcheckbox on the TSM Authentication page is unchecked.v In the Service login options window, select the Automatically when Windowsboots option to have the service started automatically when Windows starts sothat your schedules are run.v You can also use the Scheduler Service Configuration utility. The SchedulerService Configuration utility must be run from an account that belongs to theAdministrator/Domain Administrator group. You can start multiple clientscheduler services on your system.Chapter 2. Configure the Tivoli Storage Manager client 23
