Environment variablesGenerally, setting the environment variables is an optional task. Setting themmakes it more convenient for you to use the comm<strong>and</strong> line.You must set the environment variables if you need to run in either of thefollowing environments:vvYou want to invoke Tivoli Storage Manager from a directory other than thedirectory where Tivoli Storage Manager is installed.You want to specify a different options file for the backup-archive client, theadministrative client, or both.Note: You can also specify an alternate client options file for the comm<strong>and</strong>-lineclient (not the administrative client) using the optfile option.You need to set four environment variables:PATHThis is the default search path the operating system uses to locateexecutable files. Set this to include the fully qualified paths of the clientinstallation directories.Configuring the Web clientDSM_CONFIGSet this environment variable to the fully qualified path <strong>and</strong> file name ofthe client options file.DSM_DIRSet this environment variable to the directory where the client message filedsc*.txt is located.DSM_LOGSet this environment variable to the directory where the log files shouldreside.Ensure that the environment variables meet the following guidelines:v Include the directory where the executable files (for example, dsm.exe) reside inthe current PATH environment variable.
