If you restore files from another TivoliStorage Manager client node <strong>and</strong> do not specify a destination for the restored files,the client uses the file space information to restore the files. In this case, the clientattempts to restore the files to the drive on the original computer. If the restoringcomputer has access to the drive of the original computer, you can restore files tothe original drive. If the restoring computer cannot access the drive of the originalcomputer, the client returns a network error message. If you want to restore theoriginal directory structure but on a different computer, specify only the targetdrive when you restore the files. Your Tivoli Storage Manager password protects yourdata.To restore or retrieve files to another workstation, use the virtualnodename optionto specify the node name of the workstation from which you backed up the files.You can use the virtualnodename option when starting Tivoli Storage Manager orplace the option in your client options file, dsm.opt, on the workstation. If you areusing a workstation other than your own, use the virtualnodename option with thedsm comm<strong>and</strong>. For example, if your node name is cougar, enter:start dsm -virtualnodename=cougarYou can then restore or retrieve files as if you were working from your originalworkstation.You can also use virtualnodename option on comm<strong>and</strong>s. For example, to restoreyour \projx files to your local c:\myfiles directory, enter:dsmc restore -virtualnodename=cougar \\cougar\d$\projx\*.* c:\myfiles\If you do not want to restore or retrieve the files to the same directory name onthe alternate workstation, enter a different destination.Restoring or retrieving files to another type of workstationYou can restore or retrieve files from one system type to another. This is calledcross-client restore.Restriction: You must have the appropriate permissions to access the file space ofthe other workstation.NTFS drives permit file <strong>and</strong> directory names that are longer than those permittedon FAT drives.
