With early intervention and direct services from highly trained PTs and OTs my students have progressed toward physical independence that makes them less of a burden on the social welfare system. Also, it takes the burden off the school system to provide medical therapy that is needed for a child to function physically at school. Income should not be a qualifying factor for CCS services. Having a physically disabled child can be a financial burden on families with the cost of therapy being very high. Without these wonderful medical services, I fear that families earning above the cut off would not be able to help their children obtain therapy and therefore they would be more dependent on their parents and teachers for all of their self care needs and mobility needs. 5,410. If the eligibility standards are changed, I know many families who could not afford to pay privately for these necessary therapies for their children. This would be a tragedy and have great adverse affect on the quality of their children's lives.
