7,223. Mariah Wilson San Francisco, CA I am a physical <strong>the</strong>rapy student <strong>in</strong>terested <strong>in</strong> work<strong>in</strong>g with<strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> CCS system as I believe <strong>the</strong>se services <strong>are</strong> very<br />

necessary for this population.<br />

7,224. Michelle Salles Daly City, CA I'm a physical <strong>the</strong>rapist student. I have worked with<br />

families that depend on physical <strong>the</strong>rapy <strong>to</strong> make <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

children as funci<strong>to</strong>nal as possible and who could not afford<br />

<strong>to</strong> provide <strong>the</strong>rapy out of pocket. It is essential <strong>the</strong>se<br />

children receive treatment.<br />

7,226. Bill Bris<strong>to</strong>l Orange, CA This whole th<strong>in</strong>g about special needs children and<br />

provid<strong>in</strong>g programs, education, and some sort of help for<br />

<strong>the</strong>m <strong>to</strong> live <strong>in</strong> this world and especially here <strong>in</strong> <strong>California</strong>.<br />

Because this is where my son and I live.<br />

I am a s<strong>in</strong>gle p<strong>are</strong>nt of an autistic son. He has been <strong>in</strong><br />

special education all of his school years. He was able <strong>to</strong><br />

get a job thru <strong>the</strong> state disability program becuase he has<br />

learn<strong>in</strong>g problems. They assigned him a job consulor and a<br />

job coach. Then <strong>the</strong>y get you a job. It is easy for <strong>the</strong>m <strong>to</strong><br />

do. The company pays half salary and <strong>the</strong> state pays <strong>the</strong><br />

o<strong>the</strong>r half - for 3 months. After 3 months <strong>the</strong> company<br />

decides <strong>to</strong> keep <strong>the</strong> person or not. If he or she is let go,<br />

<strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong>y f<strong>in</strong>d ano<strong>the</strong>r job. But <strong>the</strong> 3 months costs <strong>the</strong><br />

company nearly noth<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong> put <strong>the</strong>m on payroll and <strong>the</strong>y<br />

probably get brownie po<strong>in</strong>ts for hir<strong>in</strong>g those who have<br />

problems.<br />

I had learn<strong>in</strong>g problems <strong>in</strong> school, but "back <strong>the</strong>n" <strong>the</strong>re<br />

was no help for me. Both my son and I have low I.Q. I<br />

failed <strong>the</strong> 8th grade and had <strong>to</strong> take it over and I limped my<br />

way thru high school. I <strong>the</strong>n flunked out of college twice.<br />

The college consulor <strong>to</strong>ld me that if I failed a 3rd time, I<br />

would be scholastically expelled and would never be able<br />

<strong>to</strong> go <strong>to</strong> a college <strong>in</strong> <strong>California</strong> ever aga<strong>in</strong>. That would be it.<br />

I s<strong>to</strong>pped try<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong> fight <strong>the</strong> situation and got a full-time job.<br />

Later, much later I was able <strong>to</strong> return and take one or 2<br />

classes at a time and f<strong>in</strong>ally got my AA degree.<br />

In <strong>the</strong> past I worked with a lot of illegals, wetbacks,<br />

undocumented imigrants. Pick which ever word you want.<br />

But I HAD <strong>to</strong> learn some Spanish. With one jerk-boss I<br />

learned 2 th<strong>in</strong>gs - stay <strong>the</strong> hell away from him when he had<br />

temper tantrums (which was nearly all <strong>the</strong> time) and learn<br />

some Spanish.<br />

Ano<strong>the</strong>r creepy boss, who also hired non-English speak<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Hispanics would call all of us English speak<strong>in</strong>g people <strong>in</strong><strong>to</strong><br />

his office and rant and rave because "<strong>the</strong>y" who refused <strong>to</strong><br />

learn English would do <strong>the</strong> job wrong because <strong>the</strong>y could<br />

not read <strong>the</strong> job order. But <strong>the</strong> fact that <strong>the</strong> job was done<br />
