5. From an organisational point of view, the project team and the operational one work together
for defining and validating the operational procedures. Technical meetings are organised on a
regular basis and cross-review of deliveries is the rule.
6. A unique document is provided for each FCP. It compiles all deliveries and results. This file is
incrementally constructed.
Input documents:
- Opération Specification
-Satellite Database
- Satellite manual
A Flight Control Procedure is an operational procedure to be executed from the ground control
center (CCS) onboard the satellite. Procedures are logically gathered in documents called Flight
Control Manuals (pyrotechnic attitude acquisition, routine, anomaly, safe-mode…).
For instance, the reconfiguration of a payload subsystem is a FCP included in Flight Control
Manual “Anomaly”. With respect to SPOT5 payload, FCPS show several TC up to sixty.
2.1 Procedure definition syntax
In the context of the SPOT/HELIOS satellite product line, operational procedures are defined with a
formalised language called PIL. The PIL language instructions include: SEND TeleCommand (TC);
CHECK TeleMetry (TM) parameter value; Control structures (IF… THEN…ELSE); Other
procedures CALL; time instruction (WAIT)… and also plain (informal) text.
2.2 Procedure definition rules
Procedure writing rules have been introduced to ensure procedure consistency and a better usability:
1. Two reading levels are provided to fulfil two different objectives of FCPS :
− The first level aims at executing an operation onboard the satellite. It stresses on TC to be
sent to the satellite and on verifications to be performed on TM parameters.
