4.2 COMPONENT DEGRADATION MEASUREMENT<br />

Another application of the bench is to test specific<br />

component such as filters, LNB, TWTA, etc.<br />

As example, the figure shows the performance<br />

and degradation due to specific payload filtering.<br />

In this example, the filter used doesn't introduce<br />

significant degradation and it could be possible to<br />

relax its specifications (in line with the link<br />

budget losses associated with this filter).<br />

As the input/output of each rack is standardised, it<br />

is very easy to integrate and test commercial<br />

equipment as well as breadboards or engineering<br />

models.<br />

Within the framework of ATF project, CNES is developing a bench called BST to study transmission<br />

satellite systems as well as degradation due to specific element of the transmission chain. This bench is<br />

principally devoted to the analysis of multimedia satellite systems and it could represent up to fifteen<br />

interferers taking into account adjacent and co-frequency beams. Specific components have been<br />

developed which are now available and could serve for many applications even in non-satellite systems.<br />
