ETCC'2003 European Test and Telemetry Conference add-on device. This device has it’s own power supply, RF part on board, including antenna (figure 2). The second device of AMR system is electronic meter with integrated RF communication. Due to different installation infrastructure, antenna can be internal (under the cover of a meter) or external (figure 3). ETCC'2003 European Test and Telemetry Conference Supervising parts of a system consist of local data concentrators (P2LPC in figure 1) and/or hand terminal units. Local data concentrator P2LPC locally collects data from meters that are located within their communication range and database. Data collection is running either over pre-defined schedule (polling) or by manual intervention from the utility center. Data are stored in P2LPC on Flash memory, processing is running over PC WIN CE 4.11 platform. Data concentrator transmits meters data when it receives a call from the utility’s center or when an alarm occurs. Several communication possibilities exist like GSM, GPRS, ISDN, plain PSTN or LAN.
