Responding to Requests for Funding by P&T Committee Members<br />

<strong>Orange</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> – Chapter 7: P&T Committee Interactions<br />

Q. What if, while I am giving a presentation on a <strong>Pfizer</strong> product under formulary<br />

review, a P&T Committee member asks for a grant or charitable contribution?<br />

Should I schedule a separate meeting to explain <strong>Pfizer</strong>'s process for considering<br />

these requests?<br />

A. No. You must never affirmatively raise the topic of providing a grant or<br />

charitable contribution to a P&T Committee member, but if the member makes<br />

a specific unsolicited inquiry about it you may address it by doing the following:<br />

Stating that, at the conclusion of your product discussion, you can<br />

provide information about the procedures for submitting a request to<br />

<strong>Pfizer</strong>;<br />

Stating that a decision to provide the requested funds will in no way be<br />

influenced by the P&T Committee member's status in making formulary<br />

decisions; <strong>and</strong><br />

Explaining that the decision on whether to provide requested funds will<br />

be made by an independent multi-disciplinary group <strong>and</strong> will not be<br />

impacted by the pending formulary decision.<br />

Formal Product Presentations to P&T Committees<br />

Who May Present?<br />

P&T Committees often ask pharmaceutical manufacturers for product information <strong>and</strong> invite them to<br />

present data that supports putting their products on formulary.<br />

Any knowledgeable colleague (or qualified consultant approved by <strong>Pfizer</strong> Headquarters) can appear<br />

before a P&T Committee on <strong>Pfizer</strong>'s behalf. Most often, Medical Colleagues (RMRS or MOS) appear<br />

before these Committees. However, in some settings, other colleagues may present information.<br />

What Information May Colleagues Present?<br />

There are differences in the types of information colleagues may present at these meetings, especially<br />

regarding off-label information or new data that is not approved for product promotion. The key to<br />
