Privacy<br />
We are all familiar with the notion of personal information from our own daily lives. Some personal<br />
information identifies who we are <strong>and</strong> where <strong>and</strong> how we live; other personal information is medical in<br />
nature; still other forms of personal information relate to finances, political affiliations <strong>and</strong><br />
philosophical beliefs. <strong>Pfizer</strong>’s corporate policies require that the confidentiality <strong>and</strong> security of personal<br />
information be maintained in accordance with state <strong>and</strong> federal law.<br />
This Chapter highlights certain key <strong>Pfizer</strong> policies regarding the protection of Personal<br />
Information. Examples of such activities include health screenings, surveys, clinical outcomes<br />
research, <strong>and</strong> mentorships as well as managing personal information in your possession—such as<br />
on your computer.<br />
Non-compliance with these policies can put the Company at risk <strong>and</strong> can subject you to disciplinary<br />
action up to <strong>and</strong> including termination.<br />
Patients’ Privacy <strong>and</strong> Personal Information<br />
Personal Information “Personal Information” (PI) includes any information that alone or in combination<br />
with other data can be used to identify a person. Sensitive Personal Information (SPI) is a subset of<br />
Personal Information which includes personal information about a person’s physical or mental health<br />
(e.g., a person’s medical history, physical or mental condition, diagnosis or treatment or the identity of<br />
the person’s health care provider or health insurer).<br />
Governing Laws <strong>and</strong> <strong>Pfizer</strong> Policies. There are many federal <strong>and</strong> state laws applicable to the use of<br />
Personal Information <strong>and</strong> Sensitive Personal Information. Regardless of the circumstances under which<br />
Personal Information is disclosed, when an individual chooses to share such information with a person<br />
they trust, they generally expect the person to hold that information in confidence <strong>and</strong> to keep it<br />
secure. <strong>Pfizer</strong> respects this expectation <strong>and</strong> is committed to appropriately protecting all Personal<br />
