<strong>Orange</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> – Chapter 17: State Laws: HCP <strong>and</strong> State Employee Restrictions<br />

allow adequate time for review <strong>and</strong> processing of your application prior to the deadline. As part of the<br />

license renewal application, you will need to attest that you have completed a minimum of 15 hours of<br />

continuing education during the two year period preceding the date the license expires. You must<br />

register for a “SafeRx Pharmaceutical Detail Licensing CE Program” through P2L. Once registered, you<br />

will receive a list of CMR training courses that are approved for CE under the SafeRx Pharmaceutical<br />

Detail Licensing Program. It can take up to two months to complete each course offered, <strong>and</strong> <strong>Pfizer</strong><br />

will pay directly for home study courses taken with the CMR SafeRx Pharmaceutical Detail Licensing CE<br />

Program. If you have completed a CMR Certification or CMR Flex course post receipt of your<br />

pharmaceutical detailer’s license, you should contact CMR at (800) 328 – 2615 or<br />

program@cmrinstitute.org to determine if you already received renewal credit.<br />

The District of Columbia can impose significant penalties on <strong>Pfizer</strong> for failure to comply with this law,<br />

which may include a fine of up to $10,000 as well as penalties <strong>and</strong> sanctions, for failure to comply. If<br />

you have any questions concerning the D.C. Prescription Drug Marketing Costs Disclosure Law or<br />

SafeRx please contact the Regional Attorney with responsibility for the District of Columbia.<br />

Louisiana<br />

The Law: Code of Governmental Ethics<br />

The Louisiana Code of Governmental Ethics prohibits HCPs who are “public servants” from performing<br />

certain compensated services for <strong>Pfizer</strong>, such as receiving fees for speaking services or reimbursement<br />

for associated expenses. In addition, Louisiana imposes a $50 cap on food, drink, or refreshment<br />

provided to a public servant for a single event. The amount should be calculated by dividing the total<br />

cost of the food by the total number of persons (including non-public servants) at the event.<br />

Definition of "Public Servant"<br />

“Public servants” are either public employees or elected officials. They include persons who are<br />

employees at any of the following institutions:<br />

Louisiana State University (LSU) <strong>and</strong> affiliated hospitals <strong>and</strong> clinics;<br />

Charity hospitals <strong>and</strong> other state hospitals;<br />
