Awards, Scholarships <strong>and</strong> Fellowships<br />
Overview<br />
<strong>Orange</strong> <strong>Guide</strong> – Chapter 3: Support of External Organizations<br />
<strong>Pfizer</strong> sponsors awards, scholarships, fellowships <strong>and</strong> similar funding in support or recognition of HCPs<br />
<strong>and</strong> students. Only <strong>Pfizer</strong> Medical (formerly the CMO division) is permitted to fund awards, fellowships<br />
<strong>and</strong> scholarships.<br />
Awards are programs developed with an independent professional group to provide funds or other<br />
recognition to an individual demonstrating professional excellence or an outst<strong>and</strong>ing commitment to<br />
public health or patient care. Fellowships are funds paid to U.S. medical schools, academic medical<br />
centers, teaching hospitals, schools of nursing, pharmacy or public health, <strong>and</strong> other healthcare-related<br />
organizations to support junior faculty or emerging leaders in medical science for one or more years of<br />
study. Scholarships are funds awarded to students engaged in a full-time academic activity (normally a<br />
medical degree) to aid with education costs. <strong>Pfizer</strong> also sponsors awards, scholarships, fellowships <strong>and</strong><br />
similar funding that: (1) permit medical students, residents, fellows <strong>and</strong> other healthcare professionals<br />
in training to attend conferences; or (2) support clinical or research fellowships.<br />
Colleagues That May Provide Funding: Awards, scholarships <strong>and</strong> fellowships are<br />
permitted to be funded only by <strong>Pfizer</strong> Medical Colleagues.<br />
Approval Process: All such funding requests are subject to review <strong>and</strong> approval by the<br />
Legal representative on the Policy Funding Review Committee, a review committee<br />
comprised of Legal <strong>and</strong> Public Affairs <strong>and</strong> Policy Colleagues.<br />
Requirements: <strong>Pfizer</strong> funding of awards, scholarships <strong>and</strong> fellowships is permissible only<br />
under the following circumstances:<br />
o The selection of recipients is completely independent of direct or indirect <strong>Pfizer</strong><br />
influence, which includes direct selection of awardees as well as paying or choosing<br />
the selection committee that makes the ultimate decision about individual awardees;<br />
o The application is competitive <strong>and</strong> open to all relevant institutions <strong>and</strong> c<strong>and</strong>idates in a<br />
given geographic area or therapeutic area;<br />
o Resulting programs are not related to any <strong>Pfizer</strong> product; <strong>and</strong><br />
