the previous year, registering an increase of<br />

8.1%. The energy shortage during the year<br />

2009-10, therefore, decreased from 86001<br />

MUs to 83950 MUs registering a decrease<br />

of 2.4%. The peak demand during the year<br />

2009-10 was 119,166 MW as against 109,809<br />

MW during the previous year, registering<br />

an increase of 8.5%. The peak demand met<br />

during the aforesaid period was 104,009 MW<br />

as against 96,785 MW during the previous<br />

year, registering an increase of 7.5%. However<br />

the peak shortage increased from 13,024 MW<br />

(11.9%) to 15,157 MW (12.7%). An overview<br />

of <strong>power</strong> supply position in terms of energy<br />

and peak demand for the period from 1997-98<br />

to 2009-10 is presented in Exhibit-I and<br />

Exhibit-II respectively. The State / Regionwise<br />

<strong>power</strong> supply position during the year<br />

2009-10 is enclosed at Annexure-4A.<br />
