f. Judge whether measurements and
computation.
Concept C: Evidence is used to formulate
explanations
C3 f. Students will be given a variety of Oreo
cookies (see great Oreo experiment) and be
required to collect different forms of data.
Students will then determine what kind of
measurements to make and/or use computation
to find appropriate data (i.e. taste, appearance,
thickness, mass, buoyancy, circumference,
surface area, diameter, odor). (1.3; 1.8)
Complete great Oreo experiment (see appendix).
a. Use quantitative and qualitative data to
construct reasonable explanations.
a. Students will use a weather station to gather
data about weather conditions for 5-10 days.
They will record precipitation, temperature,
humidity, wind speed and direction, and air
pressure. Students will observe and record
cloud conditions. (1.3; 1.8)
a. Students will use the recorded weather data to
create a series of graphs showing patterns in the
weather over the collection period. Students will
analyze the data and make a prediction on the
next day’s weather.
b. Use data to describe relationships and
make predictions to be tested.
