Students will research various areas of Missouri (ex.
NW, SE, etc.) and write a report explaining what
types of rocks or rock formations are predominantly
in that area and what the area is mostly used for (ex.
Land fill, farming, etc.).
Students will use the information that they gathered to
explain why certain rocks or rock formations are
utilized for various land uses.

of major mineral deposits in the United
States (e.g., lead, petroleum, coal, copper,
zinc, iron, gravel, aluminum) and the
factors that affect their availability

Students will complete a webquest on US mineral
deposits.
Students will be able to identify which minerals are the
most plentiful and which are scarcer in the US. They
will also be able to explain why this is happening.
