a. Students will listen to a short story about a
character who had to solve a problem (For
example, Thomas Edison, George
Washington Carver, Rachel Carson). (1.5;
2.3; 3.1; 4.6)
a. In small groups, students will analyze
information learned through discussion and
conclude how that character solved his/her
problem.
b. Work with a group to solve a problem,
giving due credit to the ideas and
contributions of each group member.

b. In small groups, students will be assigned
jobs (i.e. recorder, presenter, material
manager, and questioner). Each group will
be given a pile of rocks and decide how they
will classify the rocks by properties. (1.3;

b. Students will fill out a self-evaluation sheet on
how well the group worked together to solve a
problem.
