Purpose<br />

The Office of Rail Transportation (RTRA) strives daily to provide our customers with a safe,<br />

courteous, and capable transit experience that demonstrates our renewed commitment to the<br />

mission of the Authority and to the region's riding public.<br />

Responsibilities<br />

The Office of Rail Transportation (RTRA) provides rail service across 117.5 miles of track and 91<br />

stations, 40 of which are in Washington, D.C., 26 in Maryland and 25 in Virginia. The Silver Line<br />

Phase II will add 11.4 miles of track and six additional stations in Virginia. RTRA is responsible<br />

for all facets of rail operations including station operations (ROSO), train operations (RTTO), rail<br />

operations control center (ROCC) including maintenance operations center (MOC), training<br />

(ROQT), and planning/scheduling (ROSC).<br />

<strong>FY2017</strong> Business Plan<br />

• Employee Injury Rate - Less than 4.6 injuries per 200,000 work hours<br />

• Customer Injury Rate – Less than 1.8 per million passengers<br />

New To <strong>FY2017</strong><br />

Six rail training instructor positions and $700K of services were added to the FY17 budget in<br />

support of FTA SMIs R-1-2-a, R 1-12-a, R-2-18-b and R-2-17-c.<br />
