The Department of Transportation Infrastructure and Engineering Services (TIES) strives to<br />
provide a positive daily commute for our customers by providing a safe and reliable rail system<br />
through comprehensive engineering, inspection, maintenance, and rehabilitation programs that<br />
enhance the condition of the Metrorail system, Metrobus and Metrorail facilities, shops, rail yards<br />
and railcars. TIES is comprised of the following offices:<br />

• Capital Program Delivery (CPDO)<br />
• Capital Program Management Office (CPMO)<br />

• Major Capital Projects (MCAP)<br />
• Plant Maintenance (PLNT)<br />
• Quality Assurance and Warranty (QAAW)<br />
• Systems Maintenance (SMNT)<br />
• Storerooms and Material Logistics (SRML)<br />
• Transit Asset Management (TAMO)<br />
• Track and Structures (TRST)<br />
Responsibilities<br />
• Engineering, project management and construction management for the Capital Program<br />
ensuring that the proper capital investments are made to support safe operations of the Metro<br />
System<br />
• Leads and coordinates hands–on technical support with the delivery and acceptance of railcars<br />
and rail vehicles required for maintenance of the system<br />
• Management of comprehensive maintenance program for a fleet of 1100+ railcars, 266 rolling<br />
stock track maintenance vehicles, 955 pieces of support equipment and provides a daily service<br />
requirement of 954 railcars<br />
• Maintain a state of good repair on WMATA’s vertical transportation system, including 613<br />
escalators (in stations) and 313 elevators (in stations, parking garages and maintenance<br />
facilities)<br />
• Manage and maintain all of WMATA’s facilities and mechanical equipment systems in support<br />
of Metrorail and Metrobus operations that includes 91 Metrorail stations, 24 parking garages,<br />
nine rail yards, 10 bus garages and 26 administrative facilities covering a 1,500 square mile<br />
area<br />
• Provide independent and objective quality assurance services designed to add value and to<br />
improve the organization’s operations and procurement<br />
• Enhance the safety and reliability of WMATA operations through comprehensive maintenance<br />
programs for Automatic Fare Collection (AFC), Automatic Train Control (ATC),<br />
Communications Systems (COMM), Lighting, Low Voltage Systems and the Rail Traction<br />
Power Distribution Systems (POWR), Shops and Material Support (SAMS) and support to<br />
CPDO for capital rebuilding<br />
