yet short-lived settlement of the Late Minoan IIIC period. 59 The
settlement is organised in three sectors with its centre being an
open, roughly square space. So far, five megara have already been
excavated and a sixth might have existed. The three parallel and
adjacent megara of sector A are the most prominent examples of
this architectural type. The study of the architecture and the ceramic
assemblage of the megara has shown that all three of them were
contemporary with the rest of the settlement despite the difference
of their architectural shape from the heavily agglutinative character
of most of the other house plans. 60 The remaining, “nonmegaroid”
houses are generally single-storey structures, usually
with three rooms, and their general plan is agglutinative.
The excavators‟ first impression of the site‟s architecture was
that it was occupied for only a short time during the middle phase
of Late Minoan IIIC, but later a Late Geometric rectangular structure,
referred to by its excavators as an oikos, was found on top of
the largest megaron. 61 This is a simple structure, built as a two-room
unit, of which one is the main rectangular room and the second
room is much smaller. The building faced east towards the old
“square” that was still in use during the Late Geometric reoccupation
of the site. It was relatively empty of features of internal arrangement.
