cond door, in the west wall, leading on to a paved area overlooking
the main path. A massive fill of stones supports a nearly semicircular
area outside its west wall and it seems likely that the whole area
served as a sort of platform or veranda overlooking the road. The
northeast outer corner of the lower megaron was pulled down when
house A was built and it is possible that the east wall of the megaron
had once continued to the north behind the building.

In house A, a bench, probably used as sleeping platform, runs
along the east wall. There are also four column bases in the room,
used for roof support. The western half of the house floor was represented
by a distinct level of trodden earth, while in the rest of the
room the bedrock crops were high above this floor level almost
reaching the bench. The natural bedrock of the floor seems to have
dictated the creation of the bench. In terms of chronological sequence,
that house A is a later construction than the megaron is
shown by the presence of pottery beneath its floor, suggesting that
the megaron (where nothing was found beneath its floor) was already
standing and in use.
