The study of its pottery assemblage and other finds do not point to
the building being used as a sanctuary; rather the quantity of ceramic
finds, representing all three categories of storage, food preparation
and serving/drinking vessels, indicate that the building‟s function
was more related to these activities. The distribution of the
ceramic assemblage indicates that consumption of food and drink
was done in the building, while preparation of food and storage
was carried out in the small square area on its north. 62 Its position
and the assemblage of its pottery finds lead to the conclusion that
the house was occasionally used by a group of people for food and
drink consumption. M. Tsipopoulou sees it more as a case of an
early andreion, suggesting that Crete had a very important role in the
socio-political developments leading to the aristocratically organized
Geometric-Archaic Greek society.
The short life of Chalasmenos offers an excellent opportunity
to study a settlement at the end of the Bronze Age in Crete. The
