The study of its pottery assemblage and other finds do not point to<br />

the building being used as a sanctuary; rather the quantity of ceramic<br />

finds, representing all three categories of storage, food preparation<br />

and serving/drinking vessels, indicate that the building‟s function<br />

was more related to these activities. The distribution of the<br />

ceramic assemblage indicates that consumption of food and drink<br />

was done in the building, while preparation of food and storage<br />

was carried out in the small square area on its north. 62 Its position<br />

and the assemblage of its pottery finds lead to the conclusion that<br />

the house was occasionally used by a group of people for food and<br />

drink consumption. M. Tsipopoulou sees it more as a case of an<br />

early andreion, suggesting that Crete had a very important role in the<br />

socio-political developments leading to the aristocratically organized<br />

Geometric-Archaic Greek society.<br />

The short life of Chalasmenos offers an excellent opportunity<br />

to study a settlement at the end of the Bronze Age in Crete. The<br />
