The Status <strong>of</strong> on going projects is given below:-<br />

1. Teesta HE Project Stage-V (510 MW), Sikkim<br />

Dam concreting and HRT heading, benching, overt lining<br />

and 91.50% invert lining <strong>of</strong> Head Race Tunnel (HRT)<br />

completed. Excavation and lining <strong>of</strong> Desilting Chambers,<br />

erection <strong>of</strong> steel liners in Pressure Shafts/Penstocks are<br />

completed. Civil works <strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong> House and TRT have been<br />

completed. Assembly <strong>of</strong> all the 3 generating units<br />

completed. The Project is expected to become fully<br />

operational by March 2008.<br />

2. Parbati HE Project, Stage-II (800 MW), H.P<br />

So far 100% excavation & 55% Dam concreting has been<br />

completed. In HRT excavation <strong>of</strong> 79.50% and concrete<br />

lining <strong>of</strong> 13% length have been completed. During Nov.’06<br />

in HRT face-4, TBM was partly buried due to heavy ingress<br />

<strong>of</strong> silt and water, causing total stoppage <strong>of</strong> work.<br />

Refurbishment <strong>of</strong> TBM has been completed. The HRT,<br />

particularly face-4 is the most critical work <strong>of</strong> the Project.<br />

Excavation <strong>of</strong> both Inclined Pressure Shafts <strong>of</strong> length<br />

1546m each with inclined TBM has been completed. In<br />

<strong>Power</strong>house excavation and 14% concreting had been<br />

completed but in Feb.’07 the back hill slope <strong>of</strong> PH suffered<br />

a slide causing a setback to the works. Slope Stabilization<br />

works are in progress. E&M works have been started.<br />

Supply <strong>of</strong> E&M and HM components is in progress.<br />

3. Sewa HE Project Stage-II (120 MW), J & K<br />

Complete excavation and 80% concreting <strong>of</strong> Dam is over.<br />

In HRT, so far 89.40% excavation has been completed.<br />

Face-7 <strong>of</strong> HRT is the most critical due to very bad geology.<br />

There has been re-routing <strong>of</strong> tunnel twice. Excavation <strong>of</strong><br />

Surge Shaft and <strong>Power</strong>house has been completed and<br />

concreting is in progress. Excavation and concreting <strong>of</strong><br />

Pressure Shafts is in progress. Erection, Alignment &<br />

Boxing up <strong>of</strong> generating units and auxiliaries is in progress.<br />

Design & Engineering work <strong>of</strong> HM and fabrication <strong>of</strong> 1st<br />

stage & 2nd stage embedded parts are in progress. The<br />

project is now expected to be commissioned by June 2009.<br />

4. Subansiri (Lower) HE Project (2000 MW),<br />

Arunachal Pradesh<br />

Major civil works contracts were awarded in December ’03<br />

but start <strong>of</strong> works got delayed due to issues related to forest<br />

clearance by MOEF and payment <strong>of</strong> NPV. The final forest<br />

clearance was accorded on 12th <strong>of</strong> October, 2004 by MOEF.<br />

Diversion Tunnels have been completed and river has been<br />

successfully diverted. Adit to Pressure Shaft completed and<br />

excavation <strong>of</strong> Vertical Pressure shafts are in progress. 57%<br />

<strong>of</strong> Surge Chamber excavation and 97% <strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong> House<br />

excavation completed so far. Further work is in progress.<br />

E&M and HM works have also been awarded. The project<br />

is now expected to be commissioned by Jan. 2012.<br />

5. Teesta Low Dam Project, Stage-III (132 MW), West<br />

Bengal.<br />

In Barrage Bays 3 to 7, Intake and PH excavation is over<br />

and concreting is in progress. PH civil works are the most<br />

critical as slides in the PH back hill slope have delayed the<br />

civil as well as E&M works. Supply and erection <strong>of</strong> E&M<br />

and HM components is in progress. Draft Tubes for all the<br />

4 units have been erected. On 27.07.2007 during flash<br />

floods, the C<strong>of</strong>fer dam was overtopped and breached<br />

resulting in flooding <strong>of</strong> the entire work area thus causing a<br />

severe setback to the progress <strong>of</strong> works and delaying the<br />

completion <strong>of</strong> Project. Restoration works are in progress.<br />

The Project is now expected to be completed by<br />

Sept.-Dec.’09.<br />

6. Uri HE Project, Stage-II (240 MW), J&K<br />

Investment approval has been accorded on 01.09.2005 with<br />

commissioning date as Nov. 2009. Major civil works have<br />

been awarded to M/s HCC Ltd. on 21-9-05 but due to major<br />

earthquake that hit the area in Oct.’05, start <strong>of</strong> major civil<br />

works was delayed. River diversion achieved on<br />

21.01.2007. Riverbed excavation started but progress was<br />

affected due to washing away <strong>of</strong> c<strong>of</strong>ferdam. All adits to HRT<br />

and TRT completed, and 89% & 57% excavation <strong>of</strong> heading<br />

completed in HRT & TRT respectively. Excavation <strong>of</strong> MAT<br />

to <strong>Power</strong> House is nearing completion. E&M works<br />

awarded to M/s Alstom on 29th Dec.’06. HM works awarded<br />

to M/s Om Metals-SPML (JV). The project is expected to<br />

be commissioned by August 2010.<br />

7. Chamera HE Project, Stage-III (231MW), H.P<br />

Investment approval has been accorded on 1.9.2005 with<br />

commissioning date as Aug.2010. All the major civil works<br />

awarded to M/S H.C.C Limited. The river has been diverted.<br />

HRT & TRT excavation 54% & 92% completed respectively.<br />

MAT to PH, Pilot tunnel to PH cavern and adit to PS bottom<br />

completed. 93% <strong>Power</strong> House excavation has been<br />

completed. E&M work was awarded to M/s Alstom and HM<br />

works to M/s Om Metals-SPML(JV). The project is expected<br />

to be completed as per schedule by August 2010.<br />

8. Teesta Low Dam Project, Stage-IV (160MW), West<br />

Bengal<br />

Investment approval has been accorded on 30.9.05 with<br />

commissioning date as Sept.2009. Civil works package was<br />

awarded to M/S HCC Ltd. with completion by Aug’09.<br />

Formal forest clearance has been received on 30/3/06 and<br />

forestland was handed over to NHPC on 20.04.06. The 1st<br />

Stage diversion was achieved on 30.1.07. So far major part<br />

<strong>of</strong> excavation for Dam component & Energy Dissipaters,<br />

PH, Cellular wall and TRC has been completed. Cellular<br />

Wall and <strong>Power</strong>house works are critical. HM and E&M<br />

packages have been awarded to M/s BHEL and M/s Om<br />

Metals. During heavy floods on 17.7.2007 the C<strong>of</strong>fer Dam<br />

was breached and whole Cellular Wall, Dam & <strong>Power</strong>house<br />

area got inundated. Restoration Work got affected due to<br />

recurrence <strong>of</strong> flash floods on 27th July 2007. Restoration<br />
