PROJECTS UNDER GOVT. CLEARANCE / SANCTION<br />
Seven projects with aggregate capacity <strong>of</strong> 5231 MW including one project <strong>of</strong> 66 MW in Joint Venture with Govt. <strong>of</strong><br />
Manipur are awaiting Govt. approval / statutory clearances. The list <strong>of</strong> these projects is as under:<br />

$$ Joint Venture project between NHPC and Govt. <strong>of</strong> Manipur<br />
The status <strong>of</strong> project under Government clearance / sanction is given below:<br />
1. Loktak Downstream (66 MW) Manipur:<br />
Investment approval was accorded on 30.12.1999 with<br />
installed capacity <strong>of</strong> 90 MW but no major works could be<br />
taken up due to adverse law and order situation. In a<br />
meeting taken by Secretary (<strong>Power</strong>), GOI on 17.7.06, it<br />
has been decided that the project shall be executed in Joint<br />
Venture partnership between NHPC and Govt. <strong>of</strong> Manipur.<br />
Accordingly a revised DPR with installed capacity <strong>of</strong> 66<br />
MW, was technoeconomically cleared by NHPC.<br />
Formalities for formation <strong>of</strong> Joint Venture Company are in<br />
process. As directed by MOEF, NHPC has to obtain fresh<br />
environmental clearance for the revised proposal.<br />
2. Pakal Dul (1000 MW), J&K<br />
The project has been cleared by MOWR from Indus Water<br />
Treaty angle on 23.3.06. DPR <strong>of</strong> the project has been<br />
Techno Economically approved by CEA on 3.10.06. Forest<br />
clearance (311.042 ha) for forest area falling outside the<br />
KHANP has been accorded by Govt. <strong>of</strong> J&K vide letter dated<br />
16.6.05. The proposal regarding de-notification <strong>of</strong> forest<br />
land has been recommended by the Standing Committee<br />
<strong>of</strong> NBWL as communicated by MOEF on 4.10.07.<br />
Environmental clearance proposal was discussed by Expert<br />
Appraisal Committee <strong>of</strong> MOEF in its meeting held<br />
on 14.11.07.<br />
