Out <strong>of</strong> the total energy generated at the bus bar, 12 percent<br />
is to be supplied free <strong>of</strong> cost to the home state i.e. Himachal<br />
Pradesh. From the remaining 88% energy generation, 25%<br />
is to be supplied to HP at bus bar rates. Balance power<br />
has been allocated to different beneficiary states / UTs <strong>of</strong><br />
Northern Region by the <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong>, Govt. <strong>of</strong> India.<br />
<strong>Power</strong> Purchase Agreements ( PPAs ) have been signed<br />
with Eight beneficiaries i.e. with Punjab, Chandigarh,<br />
Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttar<br />
Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh, in respect <strong>of</strong> the sale <strong>of</strong><br />
power being generated by the 1500 MW NJHPS. However,<br />
the state <strong>of</strong> Uttarakhand have refused to<br />
buy its share <strong>of</strong> power from the 1500 MW NJHPS,<br />
which has been reallocated by MOP, GOI, to other<br />
beneficiary states.<br />
Since its commissioning the NJHPS has generated around<br />
21889 MUs (Ex – Bus Bar Energy Generation) up to<br />
November 30, 2007 and earned revenue <strong>of</strong> Rs5433 crores<br />
up to October 2007. SJVNL has paid dividends to Govt. <strong>of</strong><br />
India (GOI) and Govt. <strong>of</strong> Himachal Pradesh (GOHP), the<br />
equity partners <strong>of</strong> SJVNL a total <strong>of</strong> Rs. 537.59 crores, the<br />
year wise details are as under:-<br />

** SJVNL has started the commercial generation only in the year 2003 – 04.<br />
Besides, indirect benefits has also accrued to the region by way <strong>of</strong> increase in agriculture and indus¬trial production. In<br />
addition, the project has also provided gainful employment to a large number <strong>of</strong> skilled and unskilled workers and has<br />
also opened the landlocked hinterland by providing essential facilities such as schools, hospitals etc. for the people <strong>of</strong> the<br />
area. Thus, NJHPS envisaged the social and economic upliftment <strong>of</strong> the persons living in the vicinity <strong>of</strong> the Project i.e. <strong>of</strong><br />
society at large.<br />
