is to provide CFL bulbs the at cost <strong>of</strong> Incandescent bulbs.<br />
The scheme seeks to leverage CDM revenues as a result<br />
<strong>of</strong> energy consumption reduction to reduce the price <strong>of</strong> the<br />
CFLs. BEE will monitor the scheme under an approved<br />
methodology <strong>of</strong> CMD Executive Board <strong>of</strong> UNFCCC. Target<br />
replacement <strong>of</strong> 400 million incandescent bulbs with CFLs<br />
could save an estimated 6000-10000MW demand.<br />
Designated Consumers and the Small & Medium<br />
Enterprises (SMEs)<br />
BEE has proposed a program to improve the energy<br />
efficiency <strong>of</strong> the the SMEs and promote energy conservation<br />
measures by a mix <strong>of</strong> government, financial institutions and<br />
private support. For this, BEE has initially identified 25 SMEs<br />
clusters in the. country which have immense potential<br />
savings. The notification for the designated consumers was<br />
issued in March 2007 for 9 industrial sectors and other<br />
establishments such as Railways. They will have to appoint<br />
energy managers and submit annual returns on energy use<br />
to SDAs.<br />
School Curriculum<br />
Under the school education program a pilot project was<br />
undertaken by the Bureau <strong>of</strong> Energy Efficiency for the school<br />
children and as a result <strong>of</strong> BEE s efforts, NCERT has revised<br />
9th standard science book <strong>of</strong> the NCERT scheme by<br />
incorporating text on the energy conservation.<br />
National Energy Conservation Awards<br />
This award scheme has motivated the progressive<br />
participating units to undertake serious efforts in saving the<br />
energy thereby preventing the anthropogenic climate<br />
change and saving the environment. A total <strong>of</strong> 384<br />
nominations were received for 2007 National Energy<br />
conservation awards, these units collectively saved<br />
308 MW <strong>of</strong> energy and in monetary terms 1843 crores per<br />
year by implementation <strong>of</strong> the energy efficient measures.<br />

Energy Conservation Highlights<br />
CDM-CFL scheme announced on 28th May 2007 .<br />
In line with Bureau's energy labeling program, the<br />
energy labeling <strong>of</strong> Frost Free & Direct Cool<br />
Refrigerators, Tubular Fluorescent lamps, Room Air<br />
conditioners and Distribution Transformers is being<br />
implemented.<br />
About 24385 schools and 525 lakh students participated<br />
in the National Energy conservation Painting<br />
Competition in year 2007.<br />
ECBC launched by the <strong>MoP</strong> on 27th May 2007, energy<br />
audits studies in 17 government buildings have been<br />
successfully completed in the second phase.<br />
