GENERATION AND TRANSMISSION SYSTEM<br />
The generation during 2006-07 was 10090 million units.<br />
During the current year 2007-08, the generation from BBMB<br />
<strong>Power</strong> Houses has been 8425 Million Units up to 30.11.2007<br />
against the target <strong>of</strong> 7205 Million Units. Generation <strong>of</strong> 10839<br />
Million Units is anticipated up to 31st March,2008 against<br />
the annual target <strong>of</strong> 10150 million units fixed by the Central<br />
Electricity Authority. The <strong>Power</strong> House wise plant<br />
availability <strong>of</strong> BBMB <strong>Power</strong> Houses for the year 2007-08<br />
up to 30.11.2007 has been Bhakra Left Bank-99.76%,<br />
Bhakra Right Bank 98.35%, Ganguwal 94.35%, Kotla<br />
96.15%, Dehar 80.02% and Pong 96.68%. The <strong>Power</strong><br />
generation at BBMB <strong>Power</strong> houses is being evacuated<br />
through BBMB <strong>Power</strong> evacuation system running into 3706<br />
circuit kilo metres length <strong>of</strong> 400 Kilo Volts, 220 Kilo Volts,<br />
132 Kilo Volts and 66 Kilo Volts transmission lines and 24<br />
Sub-stations. The Bhakra Beas Management Board <strong>Power</strong><br />
evacuation system operates in an integrated manner in the<br />
Northern Grid with its transmission network spreading over<br />
the States <strong>of</strong> Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and<br />
Delhi. The system is interconnected with transmission<br />
system <strong>of</strong> POWERGRID and the States <strong>of</strong> Uttar Pradesh,<br />
Rajasthan and Delhi. The availability <strong>of</strong> transmission<br />
system during the year 2006-07 was 98.17% whereas the<br />

availability <strong>of</strong> transmission system during 2007-08 up to<br />
November, 2007 has been 98.72%.<br />
IRRIGATION<br />
At the time <strong>of</strong> partition <strong>of</strong> India, about 80% <strong>of</strong> the irrigated<br />
area <strong>of</strong> Punjab went to West Pakistan leaving India with<br />
very meagre irrigation resources. The mighty Bhakra-<br />
Nangal and Beas Projects changed the scenario and turned<br />
Northern India into granary <strong>of</strong> the Nation. The Bhakra<br />
Nangal and Beas Projects have not only brought Green<br />
Revolution in the States <strong>of</strong> Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan,<br />
but also White Revolution by way <strong>of</strong> record production <strong>of</strong><br />
milk. The States <strong>of</strong> Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan are<br />
being supplied on an average about 28 million acre feet <strong>of</strong><br />
water per year which irrigates 125 lac acres <strong>of</strong> land.<br />
RENOVATION, MODERNISATION AND UPRATING<br />
(RM&U)<br />
The Renovation, Modernization and Uprating <strong>of</strong> two units<br />
each <strong>of</strong> Ganguwal and Kotla <strong>Power</strong> Houses and all the six<br />
units <strong>of</strong> Pong <strong>Power</strong> House (60 to 66 MW) has already<br />
been completed in year 2004.<br />
The contract for renovation, modernization and uprating <strong>of</strong><br />
Bhakra Left Bank <strong>Power</strong> House machines (5x108 mega<br />
watt) in operation for the last about 45-46 years has already<br />
