MINISTRY OF POWER<br />

An SC/ST Cell has been functioning in the <strong>Ministry</strong> since<br />

the early nineties under the direct control <strong>of</strong> the Deputy<br />

Secretary (Administration) who is also the Liaison Officer<br />

for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. SC/ST Cell<br />

also assists the Liaison Officer for OBCs. The Cell monitors<br />

the implementation <strong>of</strong> reservation policies <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Government <strong>of</strong> India in respect <strong>of</strong> Scheduled Castes,<br />

Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Physically<br />

Handicapped and Ex-Servicemen in the <strong>Ministry</strong> as well as<br />

Autonomous Bodies/CPSUs under the administrative control<br />

<strong>of</strong> the <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong>.<br />

The total strength <strong>of</strong> employees and representation <strong>of</strong><br />

Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward<br />

Classes in the <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong> as on 30.11.2007 is<br />

With a view to ensure proper implementation <strong>of</strong> reservation<br />

policy, annual inspections <strong>of</strong> reservation rosters maintained<br />

by the various organizations under its administrative control,<br />

were carried out by the Liaison Officer(SC/ST) and the<br />

inspection reports sent to the concerned Appointing<br />

Authorities for rectifying the discrepancies found during<br />

inspection. During inspections, LO(SC/ST) also had<br />

interactions with employees belonging to reserved<br />

CEA<br />

categories. These interactions helped to obviate many <strong>of</strong><br />

their misconceptions/misapprehensions and promote better<br />

understanding <strong>of</strong> the reservation policy <strong>of</strong> the Government.<br />

Welfare <strong>of</strong> minorities<br />

Separate schemes do not exist in the <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong> for<br />

welfare <strong>of</strong> the minorities. However, the schemes, if any,<br />

recommended for their welfare from time to time by the<br />

Government agencies concerned are implemented.<br />
