Implement international co-operation programmes<br />
relating to efficient use <strong>of</strong> energy and its conservation.<br />
PROJECTS AND PROGRAMMES<br />
Bureau <strong>of</strong> Energy Efficiency has already launched many<br />
voluntary and mandatory provisions <strong>of</strong> the Energy Conservation<br />
Act which received support from all the stake holders.<br />
Standards and Labeling .<br />
The Hon'ble Union Minister <strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong> launched the National<br />
Energy labeling program on May 18, 2006 at New Delhi.<br />
To begin with, the scheme is being implemented on<br />
voluntary basis for Room Air conditioners, Refrigerators<br />
(No-Frost) Direct Cool, Tubular Fluorescent Lamps and<br />
distribution transformers. The scheme is to be extended to<br />
other equipments as well and will be made mandatory. As<br />
the scheme was initiated in the terminal year <strong>of</strong> X plan, it is<br />
expected that direct energy savings will commence from<br />
the first year <strong>of</strong> XI plan and is likely to result in energy savings<br />
<strong>of</strong> about 18 billion units annually from 2011-12.<br />
The equipments like Electric Motors, Agricultural pump<br />
sets, CFLs, consumer electronic products, etc. are being<br />
added in a phased manner.<br />
National Campaign on Energy Conservation.<br />
Hon'ble Prime Minister <strong>of</strong> India, Dr. Manmohan Singh<br />
launched a National campaign on energy conservation on<br />
the occasion <strong>of</strong> the Energy Conservation Day observed on<br />
14th December 2004, primarily to create awareness about<br />
the meaning, need and significance <strong>of</strong> the energy<br />
conservation.<br />
Under the National Campaign <strong>of</strong> the Energy Conservation,<br />
a painting competition on the energy conservation<br />
for the school children <strong>of</strong> 4th and 5th standards <strong>of</strong> the<br />
35 States and the Union territories was conducted. Total<br />
number <strong>of</strong> 17560 schools and 3.43 lakh students <strong>of</strong> 4th<br />
and 5th standard participated in school level competition in<br />
year 2005, these numbers grew to 17991 schools &<br />
3.99 lakh students and 24385 schools & 5.25 lakh
