7.5.2.3 Joint Venture with Bharat Earth Movers Limited<br />
(BEML)<br />
An MOU has been signed with Bharat Earth Movers Limited<br />
(BEML) on 14.02.07 to explore the possibility <strong>of</strong> joint business<br />
development mainly in the field <strong>of</strong> contract coal mining.<br />
7.5.2.4 Acquisition <strong>of</strong> stake in TELK<br />
A Business Collaboration and Share Holders’ Agreement<br />
has been signed on 23.06.07 amongst Govt. <strong>of</strong> Kerala,<br />
TELK and NTPC to acquire around 44.6% stake <strong>of</strong> TELK,<br />
held by Govt. <strong>of</strong> Kerala. .<br />
7.5.2.5 Joint Venture with ADB<br />
An MOU has been signed between NTPC and ADB on<br />
23.07.07 for Establishment <strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong> Generation <strong>of</strong> about<br />
500 MW through Renewable Energy Sources.<br />
7.5.2.6 SPV among CIL, SAIL, NMDC, RINL and NTPC<br />
An MOU has been signed amongst NTPC, RINL, SAIL,<br />
NMDC and CIL for sourcing Cooking coal and Thermal coal<br />
from abroad.<br />
7.5.2.7 MOU with Society for Integrated Circuit<br />
Technology and Applied Research (SITAR) for<br />
Solid State Lighting (SSL) using White Light LED.<br />
MOU has been signed on 7 th Nov.2006 for using White lights-<br />
LED for energy conservation.<br />
7.5.2.8 MOU with REC<br />
MOU signed with REC on 16.08.04 to pursue MOP’s<br />
programme <strong>of</strong> electrification <strong>of</strong> rural village & households<br />
under the “Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana”<br />
(RGGVY) for the work related to Rural Electrification in the<br />
states <strong>of</strong> West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya<br />
Pradesh and Orissa. Separate quadripartite agreement<br />
among REC, NTPC, State Government and SEB have been<br />
signed for WB, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Madhya<br />
Pradesh.<br />
7.5.2.9 MOU with The Energy & Resource Institute<br />
(TERI)<br />
MoU signed with The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI)<br />
in March 2005 for a Joint Programme on Distributed<br />
Generation and Rural Electrification.<br />
7.5.2.10 MOU with Kyushu Electric <strong>Power</strong> Company<br />
(KEPCO) Japan<br />
MoU was signed on 19.02.07 to adopt best practices<br />
between NTPC & KEPCO.<br />
7.5.2.11 JV with BHEL<br />
An MOU has been signed on 07.09.07 for taking up EPC<br />
contracts for <strong>Power</strong> Plants.<br />
7.6 Subsidiary Companies<br />
7.6.1 NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVN)<br />
NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd. (NVVN) is a wholly owned<br />
subsidiary <strong>of</strong> NTPC, formed on 01.11.2002. The company<br />
is holding category “F” license for power trading. In view <strong>of</strong><br />
the market potential for fly ash and fly ash related products,<br />
the company entered into ash business in the year 2005.<br />
Gross Revenue <strong>of</strong> the company for 2006-07 is Rs. 880.80<br />
crores and Pr<strong>of</strong>it After Tax is Rs. 6.50 crores.<br />
During the year 2007-08, NVVN traded 2219.58 MUs upto<br />
30.11.07 and transacted business with 24 State Utilities. Most<br />
<strong>of</strong> the power during this year has been traded under power<br />
banking arrangements with various utilities. The major sellers<br />
/ buyers <strong>of</strong> power were TNEB (Tamil Nadu), MPPTC<br />
(Madhya Pradesh), HPGCL (Haryana), KSEB (Kerala),<br />
PSEB (Punjab), APPCC (Andhra Pradesh), J&K, CSEB<br />
(Chattisgarh), MSEDCL (Maharashtra) and TSECL (Tripura).<br />
In ash business, NVVN sold 110 MT <strong>of</strong> Cenosphere during<br />
the year 2007-08 upto 30.11.07. Sale <strong>of</strong> fly ash to domestic<br />
industries has been tied from Dadri power station <strong>of</strong> NTPC<br />
and Export orders for 22000 MT <strong>of</strong> fly ash placed from<br />
Simhadri power station <strong>of</strong> NTPC.<br />
7.6.2 NTPC Electric Supply Company Ltd. (NESCL)<br />
NTPC Electric Supply Company Limited (NESCL) is a<br />
wholly owned subsidiary <strong>of</strong> NTPC, formed on 21.08.2002.<br />
The business objectives <strong>of</strong> the company are to acquire,<br />
establish & operate Electricity Distribution Network in various<br />
circles/cities across India with a clear mission to create a<br />
role model in the electricity distribution business by setting<br />
new benchmarks. Further the company was also mandated<br />
to take up consultancy and other assignments in the area <strong>of</strong><br />
Electrical Distribution Management system.<br />
While efforts are on for having the presence in the retail<br />
electricity distribution business in the existing licensed areas,<br />
the company is also considering to realign the business focus<br />
in the green field and brown field areas <strong>of</strong> retail distribution<br />
<strong>of</strong> electricity like Industrial Parks, New Residential /<br />
Commercial Complexes and SEZs. Company is also<br />
engaged in the consultancy services to various power utilities<br />
in the area <strong>of</strong> turnkey execution <strong>of</strong> development <strong>of</strong><br />
distribution network and third party inspection services for<br />
materials / equipments being procured by them.<br />
With the objective <strong>of</strong> sectorial support in the area <strong>of</strong><br />
distribution, NESCL has been assigned by NTPC the<br />
responsibility <strong>of</strong> following programs <strong>of</strong> GoI under <strong>MoP</strong>:<br />
- Accelerated <strong>Power</strong> Development and Reform<br />
program (APDRP) as lead Advisor cum Consultant (AcC)<br />
to monitor distribution reform & implementation <strong>of</strong> APDRP<br />
schemes in the States <strong>of</strong> Uttrakhand, Punjab, Haryana,
