MIS on <strong>Power</strong> Sector Scenario<br />
A Management Information System – A web-enabled<br />
application system on various issues <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> power<br />
for monitoring & data sharing on <strong>Power</strong> Sector Scenario<br />
has been developed. This application is hosted on intranet<br />
and having the information related to Operation &<br />
Monitoring, Planning Division, Reforms & Restructuring,<br />
Transmission, Distribution, Rural Electrification, Energy<br />
Conservation, etc divisions.<br />
Web based Tour / Leave Information system<br />
Online tour and leave information system is developed and<br />
implemented for viewing the availability <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>of</strong><br />
the rank <strong>of</strong> Deputy Secretary and above in the <strong>Ministry</strong>.<br />
The system helps the <strong>of</strong>ficials to make various meeting<br />
schedules knowing in advance the availability <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>ficers<br />
in <strong>of</strong>fice.<br />
Other Major Activties are :-<br />
Monitoring <strong>of</strong> Projects using Video Conferencing<br />
system<br />
The <strong>Ministry</strong> was given reqired support in conducting<br />
Videoconferencing for Review <strong>of</strong> various remote <strong>Power</strong><br />
Projects by Secretary (<strong>Power</strong>) through Video conferencing<br />
which includes IP based VC using NICNET.<br />
Network services & LAN Management,<br />
maintenance<br />
The Network Services in the Shram Shakti Bhawan are<br />
provided by NIC with a Proxy server, Patch Server and<br />
Anti-virus server installed at NIC-MOP Unit. Internet<br />
connectivity has been extended through, a 34 Mbps OFC<br />
pipe with present allocation <strong>of</strong> 10 Mbps bandwidth between<br />
SS Bhawan and NIC Hqs with backup <strong>of</strong> 2x2 Mbps leased<br />
lines from MTNL besides RFlink. LAN is upgraded with<br />
OFC, fibre switches & centralised UPS supply to all the<br />
backbone switches and operational in the <strong>Ministry</strong><br />
connecting about 275 Users with Email and Internet facility<br />
round the clock. A few sections and <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Ministry</strong><br />
located at Nirman Bhawan have also been provided LAN<br />
connectivity with Internet and email facilities.<br />
MOP Website enhancement, updation and<br />
maintenance<br />
The necessary support is being extended for enhancement,<br />
updation and maintenance <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>ficial bi-lingual website<br />
<strong>of</strong> the <strong>Ministry</strong>. Summary <strong>of</strong> Monthly Accounts <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Principal Accounts Office is also posted.<br />
Advanced Computer Training programme for<br />
<strong>Ministry</strong> Officers/ <strong>of</strong>ficials:<br />
As per discussion with/ decision <strong>of</strong> Secretary (P) all<br />
required help had been provided eralier to the Admin div.<br />
by devising Course curriculum <strong>of</strong> Three different levels <strong>of</strong><br />
Computer Training Programme for making the <strong>Ministry</strong> staff<br />
IT enabled, required interaction with training agency<br />
DOEACC for acceptance <strong>of</strong> specialized training module<br />
as per approval <strong>of</strong> Secy(P). The matter was followed up<br />
for action by the <strong>Ministry</strong>.<br />
National <strong>Power</strong> Monitoring Center (NPMC)<br />
National <strong>Power</strong> Monitoring Center (NPMC) has been<br />
established at Shram Shakti Bhawan, New Delhi, which<br />
has computer facilities which incorporates data acquisition<br />
from different sources for monitoring <strong>of</strong> real time operational<br />
data <strong>of</strong> Generation & Transmission system as well as <strong>of</strong>f<br />
line data regarding progress/ achievement <strong>of</strong> Generation<br />
capacity addition, implementation <strong>of</strong> various transmissions<br />
and distribution systems including Accelerated <strong>Power</strong><br />
Development and Reforms Programme (APDRP), financial<br />
aspects and Rural Electrification schemes. NPMC reports<br />
are also being displayed on Intranet <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ministry</strong>.<br />
Government Policies Portal<br />
As per the directives <strong>of</strong> Cabinet Secretariat action has been<br />
initiated for uploading the Policies <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong> on<br />
the specified URL: http://policies.gov.in viz; National<br />
Electricity Policy, Tariff Policy, Hydro Development Policy,<br />
Policy guidelines for Private Investment in Transmission,<br />
Rural Electrification Policy<br />
Projects/Activities planned during Annual Plan<br />
2008-09<br />
The following projects/activities are targeted for the year<br />
2008-09<br />
MIS/ DSS Related:-<br />
Implementation <strong>of</strong> the Bar Code Module for File<br />
Tracking System<br />
Further enrichment <strong>of</strong> Intra Portal<br />
Hydropowernet Project to be managed further and this<br />
MIS/DSS already in use by the <strong>Ministry</strong> is to be enriched<br />
further and action to be initiated to include State Utilities<br />
Enrichment n <strong>of</strong> Thermopowernet, its formal launch,<br />
ensuring <strong>of</strong> participation by State Utilities.<br />
Implementation <strong>of</strong> Transpowernet Project , actions for<br />
data entry, its further enrichment and Cyber Security<br />
Audit.<br />
Targeted Training for increasing the ICT & Computer<br />
Security awareness among concerned <strong>of</strong>ficers/<strong>of</strong>ficials<br />
<strong>of</strong> the ministry.<br />
Implementation <strong>of</strong> more modules <strong>of</strong> Composite Payroll<br />
System.<br />
Implementation <strong>of</strong> Web-based Parliament Question &<br />
Answer Information System.<br />
Implementation <strong>of</strong> Web-based Court Cases Monitoring<br />
System.<br />
MIS for APDRP to be developed after sourcing required<br />
resources.<br />
