CPRI became the second laboratory in Asia to became a<br />

full member <strong>of</strong> the Short Circuit Liaison (STL)<br />

CPRI laboratories have been accredited by Association <strong>of</strong><br />

Short-circuit Testing Authorities (ASTA) – British Electro<br />

technical Approvals Board (BEAB), UK for testing <strong>of</strong> Low<br />

Voltage & Medium Voltage (LV & MV) equipment. CPRI is<br />

having its own Observers for witnessing the testing under<br />

ASTA certification Scheme at CPRI laboratories.<br />

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES<br />

The Institute undertakes research programmes under Plan<br />

R&D Scheme for in house activity and manages Research<br />

Scheme on <strong>Power</strong> (RSOP) for external agencies. For the<br />

year 2007-08 eleven new projects amounting to Rs. 168.70<br />

lakhs were commenced along with 15 ongoing projects<br />

commenced during previous year. Five new RSOP projects<br />

with an out lay <strong>of</strong> Rs. 85.23 lakhs were approved during<br />

2007-08 while 22 projects are currently under investigation<br />

at various organizations like IITs, ERDA, TNEB,<br />

PSEB, KPTCL etc.<br />

The Institute has been meeting its non-plan expenditure<br />

through revenue generated by testing and consultancy for<br />

the last nineteen years.<br />

ACTIVITIES RELATING TO WOMEN EMPLOYEES<br />

Employment situation <strong>of</strong> Women Employees in various<br />

post(s) in CPRI as on 01.11.2007 is as follows :<br />

88 out <strong>of</strong> 726 employees (12.12%).<br />

GRIEVANCE CELL<br />

The Grievance Cell has been active and available for<br />

representing any grievance faced by the women<br />

employees.<br />

ACCELERATED POWER DEVELOPMENT AND<br />

REFORMS PROGRAMME (APDRP)<br />

Central <strong>Power</strong> Research Institute (CPRI) has been<br />

functioning as Advisor-Cum-Consultant (AcC) for the<br />

purpose <strong>of</strong> capacity building in the State Electricity Boards<br />

(SEBs) / <strong>Power</strong> Utilities <strong>of</strong> Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra<br />

Pradesh under the Accelerated <strong>Power</strong> Development and<br />

Reforms Programmes (APDRP) since 2001.<br />

Benefits due to implementation <strong>of</strong> APDRP: The Feeder<br />

outages have been reduced considerably and Quality and<br />

Reliability <strong>of</strong> the supply has improved in all the three states.<br />

The complaints disposal time has been reduced<br />

considerably.<br />

The Women Cell has taken keen interest in running a Creche<br />

as a welfare measure to the employees <strong>of</strong> CPRI and<br />

residents <strong>of</strong> the Colony.<br />

No. <strong>of</strong> Physically Challenged employees in the Institute as<br />

on 01-11-07 is 16 out <strong>of</strong> 726<br />

Representation <strong>of</strong> Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe<br />

in the Institute as on 01-11-07 is 24.93% SC, 10.19% ST<br />

and 64.87% others.<br />

VIGILANCE ACTIVITIES<br />

Chief Vigilance Officer had received two complaints from the<br />

employees on some apparent vigilance matters. The cases<br />

were investigated and disposed <strong>of</strong> after discussion with the<br />

Head <strong>of</strong> the Organization. Reports and returns on vigilance<br />

activities were submitted in time to the Central Vigilance<br />

Commission (CVC) and also to the <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong>.<br />
