1.0 About SJVNL<br />
SATLUJ JAL VIDYUT NIGAM LIMITED<br />
(Formerly Nathpa Jhakri <strong>Power</strong> Corporation Ltd.)<br />
The Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited – SJVNL (formerly<br />
Nathpa Jhakri <strong>Power</strong> Corporation Limited - NJPC ) was<br />
incorporated on May 24, 1988 as a joint venture <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Government <strong>of</strong> India ( GOI ) and the Government <strong>of</strong><br />
Himachal Pradesh (GOHP) to plan, investigate, organize,<br />
execute, operate and maintain Hydro-electric power<br />
projects in the river Satluj basin in the state <strong>of</strong> Himachal<br />
Pradesh and at any other place. The present authorized<br />
share capital <strong>of</strong> SJVNL is Rs 4500 crores.<br />
The Nathpa Jhakri Hydro – <strong>Power</strong> Station – NJHPS<br />
( 1500 MW ) was the first project undertaken by SJVNL for<br />
execution.<br />
2.0 The Nathpa Jhakri Hydro – <strong>Power</strong> Station –<br />
NJHPS ( 6 X 250 MW )<br />
The Nathpa Jhakri Hydro – <strong>Power</strong> Station – NJHPS ( 1500<br />
MW ) (the country’s largest underground hydro - electric<br />
power Project) was the first project executed by SJVNL,<br />

3.0 NJHPS Project Benefits<br />
Besides the social and economic up-liftment <strong>of</strong> the people<br />
in its vicinity, the 1500 MW NJHPS has been designed to<br />
generate 6950 MU <strong>of</strong> electrical energy in a 90%<br />
dependable year. It also provides 1500 MW <strong>of</strong> valuable<br />
peaking power to the Northern Grid.
