Achievements <strong>of</strong> POWERGRID, in this area, have been<br />
recognized externally through:<br />
a. “IT usage award 2003” conferred by Computer Society<br />
<strong>of</strong> India.<br />
b. Micros<strong>of</strong>t Windows Server 2003 challenge award<br />
(International competition participated by 75 countries)<br />
c. IT consultancy for Implementation <strong>of</strong> IT Policy at Delhi<br />
Transco<br />
d. POWERGRID implemented Video conferencing facility<br />
in the capacity <strong>of</strong> technical expert cum co-ordinator<br />
for <strong>MoP</strong> and CPSUs under MOP.<br />
22.6 CONTRIBUTING TO DISTRIBUTION REFORMS<br />
UNDER APDRP<br />
Under this scheme, POWERGRID is acting as Advisor-cum-<br />
Consultant (AcC) to lend its managerial and technical<br />
expertise for improvement <strong>of</strong> distribution system and their<br />
financial performance in 178 distribution circles/ towns/<br />
schemes spread over 18 States costing about<br />
Rs. 7,450 Crore which have been approved by <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Power</strong>, Govt. <strong>of</strong> India on the recommendation <strong>of</strong><br />
POWERGRID. These are under different stages <strong>of</strong><br />
implementation.<br />
Further, POWERGRID is also executing distribution<br />
strengthening schemes <strong>of</strong> about Rs. 1,315 Crore on behalf<br />

<strong>of</strong> States such as Bihar, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat,<br />
Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram on deposit work basis<br />
under bilateral arrangements.<br />
These schemes once implemented are expected to bring<br />
qualitative change in the functioning <strong>of</strong> distribution sector<br />
in the country.<br />
Under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana<br />
(RGGVY), POWERGRID has been assigned the<br />
responsibility <strong>of</strong> implementing rural electrification projects<br />
in 9 States namely Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal,<br />
Rajasthan, Gujarat, Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Assam and<br />
Tripura involving approximately 88,290 villages <strong>of</strong><br />
68 Districts. These works are estimated to cost about<br />
Rs. 9,400 Crore.<br />
In 2006-07, POWERGRID successfully created<br />
infrastructure for electrification <strong>of</strong> 14,640 no. (30% <strong>of</strong><br />
National achievement) <strong>of</strong> villages <strong>of</strong> Bihar, Uttar Pradesh,<br />
West Bengal, Gujarat and Rajasthan out <strong>of</strong> country-wide<br />
achievement <strong>of</strong> 40,000 villages. It is a matter <strong>of</strong> pride for<br />
POWERGRID that despite it not being its core area <strong>of</strong><br />
functioning, excellent performance is displayed and is being<br />
lauded by one and all.<br />
These are very challenging assignments for POWERGRID,<br />
