Chapter 12 - OPERATING PROCEDURE
This section describes how to turn the LTV ® 1100 ventilator on and off, and how to set up the
ventilation modes.
NOTE
In the absence of an external power source, the ventilator automatically begins operation using the
internal battery. Do not operate the LTV ® 1100 exclusively on the internal battery as a standard operating
practice. The internal battery should be used for emergency situations only or for short periods while
switching between external power supply connections.

Patient Circuit Mode
The LTV ® 1100 ventilator features two patient circuit modes to accommodate a flow sensing patient
circuit or a non-flow sensing patient circuit. The patient circuit mode is selected upon startup and only
when the patient circuit query is turned on (see Queries in Chapter 10 - Extended Features for
additional information).
Flow Sensing Patient Circuit Mode (FLOW SENSOR)
The Flow Sensing Patient Circuit mode is intended to be used with a flow sensing patient circuit
and provides features such as: VE and Vte monitoring, Low Minute Volume alarm, patient flow
trigger sensitivity (with a bias flow of 10 lpm), and Spontaneous Breathing Trial (SBT).
Non-Flow Sensing Patient Circuit Mode (NO FL SENSOR)
The Non-Flow Sensing Patient Circuit mode is intended to be used with a non-flow sensing
patient circuit and provides pressure trigger sensitivity (with a bias flow of 2 lpm) with basic
monitoring and alarm functions. VE and Vte monitoring, and the Low Minute Volume alarm are
not available in this mode.
WARNING
Patient Circuit Mode – The ventilator must be set to the applicable patient circuit mode, based on
the patient circuit type in use. A patient circuit type and ventilator mode mismatch will result in a
DISC/SENSE alarm or VE monitoring, Vte monitoring, Low Minute Volume alarm, and SBT features
unavailable. To avoid unintended alarms and/or receive desired monitored values, be sure the correct
patient circuit is used and the ventilator patient circuit mode is set appropriately.
