Checking the Ventilator for Proper Operation<br />

1) Verify that the ventilator is functioning properly by performing the Ventilator Checkout Tests. 83<br />

Disconnect the patient from the ventilator and ventilate the patient using an alternative<br />

method before running the Ventilator Checkout tests.<br />

2) Connect the AC adapter to a valid AC power source. Connect the patient circuit to the ventilator<br />

and to a test lung with a compliance of 10 ml/cmH2O and a resistance of 5 cm/L/sec. Do not<br />

connect the Oxygen supply. Turn the ventilator on and proceed with the checkout as defined in<br />

the following table:<br />

Ventilator Settings and Procedure<br />

A) Configure the ventilator settings as<br />

follows, and run the equipment for at<br />

least two minutes:<br />

Patient Circuit Mode: Flow Sensor<br />

Mode: Assist/Ctrl<br />

Breath Rate: 12<br />

Tidal Volume: 500<br />

Insp. Time: 1 sec<br />

Pressure Support: 0<br />

Sensitivity: 3<br />

High Pressure Limit: 100<br />

Low Pressure Alarm: 5<br />

Low Min Vol: 1.0<br />

PEEP: 0<br />

Performance Requirement<br />

Selected Monitors should read as follows:<br />

Exhaled Tidal Volume: 383 to 633 ml<br />

I:E Ratio : 1:3.8 to 1:4.2<br />

Total Breath Rate: 12 bpm<br />

Total Minute Vol: 4.6 to 7.6 L<br />

No alarms<br />

B) Set the Low Min. Vol. alarm to 10 L LOW MIN VOL alarm activates<br />

C) Reset the Low Min. Vol. alarm to<br />

1.0 and clear the alarm. Set the Low<br />

Pressure alarm to 60.<br />

D) Set the Low Pressure alarm to 5 and<br />

clear the alarm. Set the High Pres.<br />

Limit to 10 cmH 2 O below the Peak<br />

Inspiratory Pressure.<br />

LOW PRES alarm activates<br />

HIGH PRES alarm activates<br />

E) Reset the High Pres. Limit alarm to<br />

100 and clear the alarm.<br />

F) Disconnect the high pressure sense<br />

line from the ventilator<br />
