Thickness: Inplace compacted thickness of hotmix asphalt courses will be determinedaccording to ASTM D 3549.D. Surface Smoothness: Finished surface of each hotmix asphalt course will be tested forcompliance with smoothness tolerances.E. InPlace Density: Samples of uncompacted paving mixtures and compacted pavementwill be secured by testing agency according to ASTM D 979.1. Reference laboratory density will be determined by averaging results from 4 samplesof hotmix asphaltpaving mixture delivered daily to site, prepared according toASTM D 1559, and compacted according to jobmix specifications.2. Inplace density of compacted pavement will be determined by testing core samplesaccording to ASTM D 1188 or ASTM D 2726.a. One core sample will be taken for every 1000 sq. yd. or less of installedpavement, but in no case will fewer than 3 cores be taken.b. Field density of inplace compacted pavement may also be determined bynuclear method according to ASTM D 2950 and correlated with ASTM D 1188or ASTM D 2726.F.
