Provide a weather pro<strong>of</strong> cover as specified for ductwork to protect any equipmentinsulation that is exposed to the weather.E. Where specifically indicated, provide a PVC cover for pipe insulation.Permanently seal all joints with a solvent welding adhesive in accordance with themanufacture’s recommendations. In wet locations, make all joints drip pro<strong>of</strong>;locate longitudinal joints in horizontal piping on the side <strong>of</strong> the pipe with the openedge <strong>of</strong> the seam turned down to shed water. Provide PVC insulation cover in thefollowing locations:3.6 INSTALLATION OF PIPING INSULATIONA. General: Install insulation products in accordance with manufacturer's writteninstructions, and in accordance with recognized industry practices to ensure thatinsulation serves its intended purpose.B. Do not install insulation on pipe systems until installation <strong>of</strong> heat tracing,painting, testing, and acceptance <strong>of</strong> tests have all been completed.C. Install insulation materials with smooth and even surfaces. Insulate eachcontinuous run <strong>of</strong> piping with full length units <strong>of</strong> insulation, with a single cutpiece to complete run. Do not use cut pieces or scraps abutting each other.D. Clean and dry pipe surfaces prior to insulating. Butt insulation joints firmlytogether to ensure a complete and tight fit over surfaces to be covered.E. Maintain integrity <strong>of</strong> vapor barrier jackets on pipe insulation, and protect toprevent puncture or other damage. Special care must be made to maintain thevapor barrier at PVC fittings in cold piping systems.F. Cover valves, fittings and similar items in each piping system with equivalentthickness and composition <strong>of</strong> insulation as applied to adjoining pipe run. Installfactory molded, precut or job fabricated units (at Installer's option) except wherespecific form or type is indicated.G. Extend piping insulation without interruption through walls, floors and similarpiping penetrations. At fire rated construction seal penetration with appropriatefirestop for insulated piping systems to maintain fire rating.H. Cover exposed ends <strong>of</strong> fiberglass with a vapor retardant mastic.I. Elastomeric Insulation:MECHANICAL INSULATION 15250 10
