The general procedures for chlorination shall be first to flush all dirty or discolored waterfrom the lines and then introduce chlorine in approved dosages through a tap at one end,while water is being withdrawn at the other end <strong>of</strong> the line. The chlorine solution shallremain in the pipeline for about 24 hours. The tablet method is not allowed.D. Following the chlorination period, all treated water shall be flushed from the lines at theirextremities, and replaced with water from the distribution system. Bacteriological samplingand analysis <strong>of</strong> the replacement water shall then be made by the Engineer in full accordancewith the AWWA Manual C651. The Contractor will be required to rechlorinate, ifnecessary, and the line shall not be placed in service until the requirements <strong>of</strong> the State PublicHealth Department are met.\E. Special disinfection procedures, such as soaking or swabbing, approved by the engineer shallbe used in connections to existing mains, and where the method outlined above is notpractical.F.
