Santa Monica Museum of Art (aka SMMoA)<br />
$40,000 Los Angeles, CA<br />
To support <strong>the</strong> exhibition, "Martin Ramirez His Life in Pictures, Ano<strong>the</strong>r Interpretation," and accompanying<br />
catalogue. The exhibition will explore <strong>the</strong> work of self-taught artist, Martin Ramirez (1895-1963). The exhibition<br />
will include approximately 55 drawings collaged from found papers, crayons, pencils, and o<strong>the</strong>r makeshift tools,<br />
and a 17-foot-long scroll never be<strong>for</strong>e exhibited. Ramirez's drawings are quirky and creative depicting tunnels<br />
and trains, ca<strong>the</strong>drals, strange vehicles, cave-like enclosures, Madonnas and saints, entertainers, laborers, and<br />
warriors.<br />
St. Louis Art Museum<br />
$30,000 Saint Louis, MO<br />
To support <strong>the</strong> exhibition, "Degas, Impressionism, and <strong>the</strong> Paris Millinery Trade." The exhibition will feature a<br />
large selection of 19th- and early 20th-century hats alongside works by Edgar Degas (1834-1917) and his<br />
contemporaries, including Edouard Manet, Mary Cassatt, and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. More than 110<br />
artworks will be showcased, including paintings and works on paper by Degas. The exhibition will explore <strong>the</strong><br />
millinery industry of <strong>the</strong> period, <strong>the</strong> international trade in exotic fea<strong>the</strong>rs and floral decorations, <strong>the</strong> importance<br />
of men's hats as a counterpart to what has traditionally been considered a feminine fashion, and <strong>the</strong><br />
connections to France's colonial history. Free public programs and a symposium will accompany <strong>the</strong> exhibition.<br />
State University of New York at Buffalo (On behalf of Center <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong>)<br />
$30,000 Buffalo, NY<br />
To support <strong>the</strong> exhibition "Wanderlust," and accompanying catalogue, organized by <strong>the</strong> Center <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Arts</strong>. The<br />
exhibition will showcase a variety of media, including drawing, photography, sculpture, installation, film, and<br />
video that explores 50 years of artistic action in and with <strong>the</strong> landscape. The exhibition will examine <strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>me<br />
chronologically, including works of both urban and rural environments. Participating artists include: <strong>Fall</strong>en Fruit,<br />
William Lamson, Carmen Papalia, Kim Beck, Marie Lorenz, Roberley Bell and Todd Shalomiel. The exhibition will<br />
include hands-on experiential learning with visiting artists, public lectures, an activity guide, and monthly<br />
professional development seminars <strong>for</strong> K-12 art teachers.<br />
Sterling & Francine Clark Art Institute (aka The Clark)<br />
$30,000 Williamstown, MA<br />
To support <strong>the</strong> exhibition, "A Suite <strong>for</strong> Piano: Alma-Tadema and <strong>the</strong> Artistic Interior," and accompanying<br />
catalogue. The exhibition will feature furniture, paintings, sculpture, and antiquities from <strong>the</strong> Gilded Age music<br />
room designed by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836-1912). One of <strong>the</strong> most eminent and highly paid artists of<br />
<strong>the</strong> time, Alma-Tadema specialized in archaeologically exact paintings evoking classical antiquity. His designs <strong>for</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> music room included not only <strong>the</strong> piano and furniture, but also <strong>the</strong> embroidery scheme <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> upholstery<br />
and matching curtains and portieres. In addition <strong>the</strong> works by Alma-Tadema, o<strong>the</strong>r highlights will be Frederic,<br />
Lord Leighton's (1830-96) ceiling painting and works by Sir Edward Poynter (1836-1919). Public lectures, a free<br />
family day, academic programs, gallery talks, audio tours, and o<strong>the</strong>r related events will help engage <strong>the</strong><br />
audience.<br />
Storm King Art Center<br />
$30,000 New Windsor, NY<br />
To support <strong>the</strong> exhibition, "David Smith: The White Sculptures." The exhibition will be <strong>the</strong> first ever to focus on<br />
<strong>the</strong> use of <strong>the</strong> color white in David Smith's (1906-1965) practice. His first sculptures of white coral from <strong>the</strong><br />
Virgin Islands, as well as a series of eight large-scale sculptures using wood, wire, coral, soldered metal and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
