new video art will be created to existing musical works that are evocative of impressions of water and <strong>the</strong><br />

natural world. Engagement activities will include elements of live per<strong>for</strong>mance and <strong>the</strong> video. The program will<br />

be presented in venues such as <strong>the</strong> Cleveland Museum of Art in Ohio and <strong>the</strong> University of Notre Dame's<br />

DeBartolo Per<strong>for</strong>ming <strong>Arts</strong> Center in Indiana.<br />

Trustees of Union College in <strong>the</strong> Town of Schenectady in <strong>the</strong> State of New York (aka Union College) (On behalf<br />

of Union College Concert Series)<br />

$10,000 Schenectady, NY<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> presentation of solo and chamber music per<strong>for</strong>mances by <strong>the</strong> Union College Concert Series.<br />

Titled Idyll and Abyss: The Late Works of Schubert, <strong>the</strong> project will explore <strong>the</strong> later works of Franz Schubert,<br />

including song cycles and impromptus. Programming will feature artists such as pianists Misuko Uchida and<br />

Jonathan Biss, tenor Mark Padmore, <strong>the</strong> Doric Quartet, as well as musicians from <strong>the</strong> Curtis Institute of Music.<br />

Additional activities will include educational and community engagement events, such as free pre-concert<br />

lectures (that will be live-streamed and archived) and free per<strong>for</strong>mances in nontraditional venues.<br />

University of South Florida<br />

$15,000 Tampa, FL<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Jazz Composers Symposium. As many as 200 jazz composers, musicians, industry professionals,<br />

scholars, and students are expected <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> multi-day symposium at <strong>the</strong> University's School of Music. Evening<br />

concerts with guest artists Billy Childs, John Hollenbeck, and Rufus Reid will be open to <strong>the</strong> public. An additional<br />

free public concert will showcase new compositions by composers who had submitted works in an international<br />

call <strong>for</strong> scores. O<strong>the</strong>r symposium offerings may include guest artist master classes, including one conducted by<br />

Maria Schneider. Artist talks, music industry lectures and workshops, educational sessions focused on teaching<br />

jazz composition and arranging, research paper presentations, and a poster session <strong>for</strong> jazz composers<br />

interested in sharing <strong>the</strong>ir works through displaying scores, self-analyses, recordings, or videos will round out<br />

<strong>the</strong> project. Organizational partners include ArtistShare and <strong>the</strong> Florida Jazz Educators Association.<br />

Van Cliburn Foundation, Inc. (aka The Cliburn)<br />

$10,000 Fort Worth, TX<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> commissioning of new works and <strong>the</strong> presentation of musical works during <strong>the</strong> Fifteenth Van<br />

Cliburn International Piano Competition. Founded in 1961, <strong>the</strong> foundation's mission is to identify and promote<br />

<strong>the</strong> finest talent in classical music worldwide through piano competitions, concerts, and education programs in<br />

Fort Worth and Dallas schools. The project will include <strong>the</strong> commissioning of new music <strong>for</strong> piano by composer<br />

and pianist Marc-Andre Hamelin and <strong>the</strong> participation of <strong>the</strong> Brentano String Quartet, conductors Leonard<br />

Slatkin and Nicholas McGegan, and <strong>the</strong> Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.<br />

Vocal <strong>Arts</strong> Society (aka Vocal <strong>Arts</strong> DC)<br />

$10,000 Washington, DC<br />

To support a vocal recital project. Titled On Wings of Song, <strong>the</strong> project will feature artists such as soprano Lisette<br />

Oropesa, tenor Piotr Beczala,and pianists Vlad Iftinca and Martin Katz per<strong>for</strong>ming a diverse international art<br />

song repertoire. The recitals will be held at <strong>the</strong> Auditorium at <strong>the</strong> University of <strong>the</strong> District of Columbia in<br />

Washington, D.C.<br />
