Manchester Craftsmen's Guild (aka MCG jazz)<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> MCG Jazz 30th Anniversary Large Ensemble Series. Three ensembles will each present two<br />

distinct programs at <strong>the</strong> Manchester Craftsmen's Guild and engage in educational outreach and community<br />

engagement activities. Per<strong>for</strong>mers may include Rufus Reid in a trio, quintet and big band setting with a tribute to<br />

NEA Jazz Master Ray Brown; <strong>the</strong> all-female DIVA Jazz Orchestra with guest soloists such as Bobby Crenshaw,<br />

Maurice Hines, and Ken Peplowski, in a "Diva & The Boys" program; as well as <strong>the</strong> Bob Mintzer Big Band joining<br />

up with <strong>the</strong> New York Voices <strong>for</strong> a show blending swing, bebop, and Latin styles. Ancillary activities open to<br />

members of <strong>the</strong> Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra's Youth Orchestra include invitations to <strong>the</strong> per<strong>for</strong>mances as well as<br />

<strong>the</strong> opportunity to participate in lectures and question-and-answer sessions with <strong>the</strong> artists.<br />

Marlboro School of Music, Inc. (aka Marlboro Music)<br />

$35,000 Philadelphia, PA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> Invited Master Artist Initiative, a professional development project. Student musicians will<br />

participate in a series of workshops, open rehearsals, concerts, master classes, and lecture-demonstrations led<br />

by a group of concert artists, composers, music <strong>the</strong>orist Carl Schachter and Baroque scholar Anner Bylsma,<br />

during <strong>the</strong> Marlboro Music Festival in Marlboro, Vermont. The project will be directed by Artistic Director<br />

Mitsuko Uchida, General Manager Anthony Checchia, and Administrator Frank Salomon.<br />

Maverick Concerts, Inc.<br />

$20,000 Woodstock, NY<br />

To support a mini-festival of new chamber music. The mini-festival titled New Foundations: Toward a Modern<br />

Chamber Music Repertoire will be curated by Music Director Alexander Platt and presented during <strong>the</strong> 102nd<br />

annual summer festival. Programming will feature per<strong>for</strong>mances of chamber music works spanning <strong>the</strong> last 30<br />

years by American composers such as Jennifer Higdon, Aaron Jay Kernis, Daniel Hagen, Gabriela Lena Frank, and<br />

Gerard McBurney. Artists participating in <strong>the</strong> mini-festival may include <strong>the</strong> Chiara, ETHEL, Harlem, Jupiter, and<br />

Parker string quartets, as well as Trio Solisti. Festival per<strong>for</strong>mances, mini residencies, and community<br />

engagement events will be held in rural Ulster County, New York.<br />

Minnesota Orchestral Association (aka Minnesota Orchestra)<br />

$40,000 Minneapolis, MN<br />

To support Minnesota Orchestra's annual professional development project <strong>for</strong> composers. The Composer<br />

Institute will be directed by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Puts and will be co-presented with <strong>the</strong><br />

American Composers Forum. As many as seven emerging composers, selected competitively from a pool of<br />

more than 150 applicants, will participate in <strong>the</strong> intensive residency program, which will enable <strong>the</strong>m to hear<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir work per<strong>for</strong>med by a full orchestra. The resulting compositions will be per<strong>for</strong>med in a Future Classics<br />

concert by <strong>the</strong> orchestra and conducted by Music Director Osmo Vanska.<br />

Monterey Jazz Festival<br />

$30,000 Monterey, CA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> 60th annual Monterey Jazz Festival. Emerging and established musicians, including at least one<br />

NEA Jazz Master, will appear in as many as 70 per<strong>for</strong>mances on multiple stages during <strong>the</strong> three-day festival.<br />

Past per<strong>for</strong>mers include NEA Jazz Masters Toshiko Akiyoshi, Carla Bley, Bran<strong>for</strong>d Marsalis, Wayne Shorter, and<br />
