$40,000 Portland, OR<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> White Bird Uncaged series in <strong>2017</strong>. White Bird Uncaged focuses on <strong>the</strong> world's most innovative<br />

regional, national, and international dance artists. Its adventurous nature and low ticket prices attract those<br />

who might not attend <strong>the</strong> White Bird Dance Series, with more well-known and larger companies. The series will<br />

include Tahni Holt, Companhia Urbana de Danca, and two additional companies. Per<strong>for</strong>mances will take place at<br />

Lincoln Per<strong>for</strong>mance Hall, Newmark Theatre, and Reed College in Portland.<br />

World <strong>Arts</strong> West (aka San Francisco Ethnic Dance FEstival)<br />

$50,000 San Francisco, CA<br />

To support <strong>the</strong> 39th annual San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival. The festival will present more than 30 world<br />

dance companies based in Nor<strong>the</strong>rn Cali<strong>for</strong>nia and provide underserved artists with <strong>the</strong> opportunity to per<strong>for</strong>m<br />

in a professional setting. An adjudication panel comprising teachers, per<strong>for</strong>mers, and ethnologists will select<br />

dance artists and companies whose work is rooted in a cultural tradition. Artistic Directors Carlos Carvajal and<br />

CK Ladzekpo will attend rehearsals and offer input and guidance, while also creating innovative transitions<br />

between dance pieces.<br />

Yard, Inc. (aka The Yard)<br />

$30,000 Chilmark, MA<br />

To support YARDS ARTS, contemporary dance per<strong>for</strong>mances, and artist and company research residencies. The<br />

<strong>the</strong>me <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>2017</strong> season of YARDS ARTS is The Formalists: Adventures in <strong>the</strong> Sciences of Dance-Making. The<br />

<strong>the</strong>me will examine a cohort of artists rigorously re-casting <strong>the</strong> fundamentals of <strong>the</strong>ir dance-making research<br />

and may include Pam Tanowitz, Beth Gill, Raphael Xavier, Ragamala Dance, Camille A. Brown and Dancers,<br />

Kimberly Bartosik, Adele Myers, and Stephen Petronio. Residencies will include per<strong>for</strong>mances, showings, pop-up<br />

per<strong>for</strong>mances, educational programs, and weekly seminars featuring visiting artists. Events will be hosted at The<br />

Yard's campus and Martha's Vineyard Regional High School Per<strong>for</strong>ming <strong>Arts</strong> Center in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts.<br />
