$25,000 New York, NY<br />
To support development of a traveling exhibition and catalogue, "Transatlantic Encounters: Latin American<br />
Artists in Paris between <strong>the</strong> Wars, 1918-39," and related programming. The exhibition will focus on <strong>the</strong> work of<br />
more than 40 Latin American artists and <strong>the</strong>ir contributions to modernism during this time between <strong>the</strong> World<br />
Wars. Approximately 100 paintings, sculptures, and works on paper by renowned artists such as Roberto Matta,<br />
Diego Rivera, and Joaquin Torres Garcia, and those by lesser known artists such as Amelia Pelaez, Emilio<br />
Pettoruti, and Angel Zarraga will be presented. Related bilingual public programming will complement <strong>the</strong><br />
exhibition.<br />
Armand Hammer Museum of Art and Cultural Center, Inc. (aka Hammer Museum)<br />
$55,000 Los Angeles, CA<br />
To support a retrospective exhibition featuring of <strong>the</strong> work of Jimmie Durham. The exhibition will present works<br />
by Durham (b. 1940) from numerous collections in <strong>the</strong> United States, Mexico, and Europe. Durham has worked<br />
across a variety of mediums and materials including natural and found materials such as animal skulls and<br />
bones, stones, wood, car parts, clothing, and machinery. Public programming such as artist talks, films, and<br />
per<strong>for</strong>mances will give visitors a deeper understanding of <strong>the</strong> issues that in<strong>for</strong>m his work such as grassroots<br />
activism, <strong>the</strong> American Indian Movement, and <strong>the</strong> pursuit of equality and justice. An illustrated catalogue will<br />
accompany <strong>the</strong> exhibition containing essays, interviews, and writings by Durham.<br />
Artreach, Inc. (aka Art-Reach)<br />
$25,000 Philadelphia, PA<br />
To support Access Admission. The program is designed to increase cultural accessibility <strong>for</strong> individuals with lowincome<br />
and/or living with disabilities. Building on a successful pilot year that served approximately 40,000<br />
people at more than 30 partner museums, Access Admission will provide af<strong>for</strong>dable access <strong>for</strong> low-income<br />
communities to engage in <strong>the</strong> arts on a regular basis in <strong>the</strong> Greater Philadelphia area. The project will include a<br />
comprehensive outreach plan with <strong>the</strong> goal of doubling <strong>the</strong> participation rate.<br />
Barnes Foundation<br />
$40,000 Philadelphia, PA<br />
To support <strong>the</strong> exhibition, "Person of <strong>the</strong> Crowd: The Contemporary Art of Flanerie." Inspired by <strong>the</strong> flaneur (a<br />
19th-century literary character-type) who takes to <strong>the</strong> streets with no fixed itinerary as an urban observer, <strong>the</strong><br />
exhibition will feature works by 40 international artists, including off-site installations in storefronts, billboards,<br />
and o<strong>the</strong>r public spaces. Photographs and video submitted by <strong>the</strong> public will be curated to create a digital work<br />
of art and projected in <strong>the</strong> Annenberg Court and on <strong>the</strong> website created <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> exhibition, infusing <strong>the</strong><br />
exhibition experience with present day flaneurs and <strong>the</strong>ir represntations of city life. The Barnes is uniquely<br />
resourced to bring toge<strong>the</strong>r both historically significant paintings by artists such as Degas, Manet, Monet,<br />
Renoir, and Seurat-showcased in <strong>the</strong> permanent collection-with a survey exhibition by distinguished 20th- and<br />
21st-century artists. The exhibition will feature work by contemporary artists who have taken to <strong>the</strong> street to<br />
play detective, make fantastic maps, scavenge and shop <strong>for</strong> new materials, launch guerilla campaigns, and make<br />
provocative public spectacles of <strong>the</strong>mselves to speak to a diversity of issues. Extensive public<br />
