landscape, as well as providing artists with <strong>the</strong> support to produce a project which might not o<strong>the</strong>rwise happen.<br />

Hedgebrook Foundation<br />

$25,000 Langley, WA<br />

To support fully funded artist residencies. Hedgebrook will select resident authors, with a focus on women<br />

writers, through an anonymous, juried process. The writers will reside in cottages on Whidbey Island and ga<strong>the</strong>r<br />

each evening to serve as editors and sounding boards <strong>for</strong> one ano<strong>the</strong>r's work.<br />

Hermitage Artist Retreat, Inc. (aka Hermitage)<br />

$20,000 Englewood, FL<br />

To support artists residencies. Resident artists will be provided studio time, housing, meals, local transportation,<br />

administrative support, and interaction with peer artists. Artists also have <strong>the</strong> option to bring <strong>the</strong>ir families with<br />

<strong>the</strong>m during <strong>the</strong> residency period. Artists will be encouraged to share <strong>the</strong>ir work with <strong>the</strong> public through open<br />

studios, free community programming, and collaborative activities.<br />

I-Park Foundation, Inc. (aka I-Park)<br />

$20,000 East Haddam, CT<br />

To support a collaborative residency <strong>for</strong> composers and musicians, as well as related activities. The program will<br />

bring toge<strong>the</strong>r composers and a per<strong>for</strong>ming ensemble working in <strong>the</strong> new music genre. The musicians will<br />

collaborate with <strong>the</strong> composers on new compositions and <strong>the</strong>n feature <strong>the</strong> works in a series of concerts <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

general public.<br />

Island Institute (aka Island Institute)<br />

$15,000 Sitka, AK<br />

To support artist residencies and related activities. Island Institute will offer seven-week residencies <strong>for</strong> writers,<br />

as well as a multidisciplinary residency <strong>for</strong> emerging artists. In addition, a group artist residency will be held on<br />

<strong>the</strong> Alaska ferry system where residents will visit a number of small, remote, island and coastal communities,<br />

presenting <strong>the</strong>ir work and talking with local audiences.<br />

Kala Institute (aka Kala Art Institute)<br />

$15,000 Berkeley, CA<br />

To support artist residencies and related activities. U.S. and international artists will be provided <strong>the</strong> time and<br />

materials to work in book arts, electronic/digital media, installation, photography, and printmaking. The new<br />

bodies of work will be presented through exhibitions, per<strong>for</strong>mances, and public programs.<br />

MCA Denver<br />

$25,000 Denver, CO<br />

To support an artist exchange residency and related activities. Artist residencies lasting approximately one<br />

month will be held at <strong>the</strong> Museo Taller Jose Clemente Orozco in Guadalajara, Mexico, and MCA Denver. Artists<br />

will advance <strong>the</strong>ir practices while immersing <strong>the</strong>mselves in <strong>the</strong> local communities through <strong>for</strong>mal programming<br />

like lectures and studio visits, as well as in<strong>for</strong>mal programming such as community events and public outreach.<br />

MacDowell Colony, Inc. (aka The MacDowell Colony)<br />

$25,000 Peterborough, NH<br />
